About Kira

I’m an eighteen (soon to be nineteen) year-old college student. I live in Tilbury, Ontario, Canada and am attending Fanshawe College in London, Ontario for Multimedia Design and Production.

I’m a nature enthusiast, well on my way to becoming a full-blown tree-hugger. In my life, I’ve owned/my family has owned four cats (plus barn cats), three dogs, countless fish, two hamsters, three canaries, and a rabbit. To date, we have one cat and one dog at home, and Poseidon, who lives where I live. ^.~

My purpose for creating this site was not to make a know-all site about bettas. Instead, I am merely relating my experiences with keeping a betta with the hope of helping others to, first of all, learn the proper way to care for these lovely fish, and secondly, provide resources that I've found to be accurate and helpful to prevent others from making the same nearly fatal mistakes I did. I also love to show him off, and seeing as I'm sure the folks on PetFish are tired of seeing him by now, I needed a place to display the rest of the photos I have festering on my hard drive. ^.~

About Poseidon

Poseidon is a male VT (veil tail) betta, roughly a year and a half old. He came from PetSmart in London, and is, in my opinion/in comparison to my friends’ bettas, a big fish, even for his age. :P

He’s a fairly fussy fish. He’ll only build bubble nests if he has medicine in the water that promotes foam, his favorite being maracyn. He’ll only eat regularly if I’m the one feeding him; he has little appetite when I’m not at home, and a family member is looking after him. He hates his filter when it’s on, but loves to rest on it when it’s off. He gets sulky when I take his heater out, so it’s in there year round, but unplugged during the summer. He doesn’t like the wind chimes hanging in view of his tank, and will try and go after them if he’s on that side of the tank and they’re moving.

I’ve considered getting another betta several times, but somehow I think Poseidon would get terribly upset if I did. ^.~ So for right now, he’s an only child (and a spoiled one at that)!
