1978 Datsun 260z

After driving my '79 280zx in England for a while, I came across this beauty.  I only saw it on rare occasions, and then only when driving around town.  One day, while driving home from somewhere with some friends,  I saw it parked in a driveway close to home.

A week later, I was out looking for the car and found it. I knocked on the door and they were eating dinner, but I had to ask  "is your Datsun for sale?"   lucky for me it was.  He told me the price £2000.00  ($3000 at the time) The next day I got up early and went to the bank.  I showed up at their door with most of the money on hand.  He agreed to take payments which was roughly £100 ($150) a month. Their youngest daughter (between 4 and 6 years old) absoutely loved the car, and didnt want me to buy it. (how cute is that?)  anyway, I got to drive her home the next day (the car...).  He took out his stereo, and gave me the factory one.  and loaded up the hatchback with all of the parts he bought for it over the years. Lucky for me, my 280zx quit working and I could drive this beauty...

I thought I got looks and thumbs up and people saying "nice car" in my 280z  This thing got attention!

a month later, my muffler began to drag, so I wired it back up, and while attempting to repair it, it broke off from the middle.  I said "screw it" and drove around with no muffler.  That thing was loud!

Got the muffler repaired and then the starter started giving me crap.  I was either push starting it everywhere I went, or sticking a screwdriver in to bridge the starter terminals. After another month, she gave up the ghost and would no longer start.  She had been sitting in my driveway ever since, and her tires have gone flat.

Soon I'm going to have it towed to a shop to have the tires filled and replaced if needed.  And get the bugger running.  I loved that car.  I loved putting the aftermarket sunroof up, windows down and just driving.  No radio. Didnt need one, I loved the sound it made on the road, the sound of her engine as I pressed on the gas.  The old manly musty smell that classic cars have.  the feel of the supple leather seats, the way it handled even though it had no power steering...   I love this car!  It is by far my FAVORITE ride I've ever owned!

 Enjoy the ride!
