Basic Ballet

There are five main positions needed for ballet. These are as follows:

First position

First position is where the feet are placed at a 180º on the floor with the heels touching and the arms are placed also in first position.

Second Position

Second position is where the feet are still placed in the same position but there is a foot and a half in between the two feet. The arms are placed in second.

Third Position

Third position is where the feet are placed with the heel of the right foot placed in front of the arch of the left foot. The arms are placed in third.

Fourth position

Fourth position has the same positions as third with the difference that there is a space of about a footlength in between the feet, so that they are not touching. The arms are placed in fourth.

Fifth Position

Fifth position is where the heel of the right foot is placed at the joint of the big toe and the feet are squeezed tightly together, so as the heel of the left foot is in line with the joint of the big toe on the right foot. The arms are placed in fifth position.
