The Art Of You And I

The lives of Diamond Deckman and Shawn Price

Writing

From Underneath

As life ends,

We run and dance

Among the flowers

That sprout from under the gravestone.

The field of the deceased

Filled with the feel of life,

And a new beginning.

Shed thy young tears,

As we mourn the passing

Of those in our past.

As we dance,

As that smile comes across your face

Once again...

We are aware

Of what shall come of this all.

A new life,

Like the flowers,

Out from underneath the stones

That represent where...

We have come

From and where...

We shall go from here.

A new life created,

To watch life taken away

And to watch life

Over and over,

Until it might cease once again.

-Shawn Price

As it Draws Near

Sleep hard young lover,

For tomorrow will be long and trying.

As day breaks,

So shall our spirits.

Try as we might

Inevitability draws near.

As you wish upon that first star,

Know that I wish for the same,

Know that the first sign of the evening,

It is your arms and your eyes

I dream of falling asleep in.

May we kiss upon my return,

May we kiss once more to mark the new year,

And finally may we lay together

Sleeping peacefully as our life begins,

With one another--

Again.

-Shawn Price

New Life (a little fatherly advice)

Declining credit scores and

Window store whores,

The economy deflates

As prices inflate

And we are left with nothing to gain.

I will maintain my composure and grace,

As my numbers are called

For the lottery of the ignorant.

As we approach the cusp of something great,

Reality returns in a monthly statement.

Material strength takes over,

Material gain becomes the goal;

Serving as a shroud to what our parents once knew.

As it turns over in my head,

As it turns over my stomach

I hope I am enough--

Let us ignore what they say,

Let us ignore those material goals.

The immeasurable things to be seen

Will far surpass the window shops,

And the daydreams of the masses.

Set the world on fire with thoughts,

Your words

And most importantly,

Your heart;

The one we have so delicately placed in your hands.

Fall prey to your convictions and

Only what you feel,

Only where passion might lead.

-Shawn Price

Let It Be Love

Take your eye away from the lens

And remove me from the slide.

As you squint to find what's there,

I may disappear...

Too much light,

Magnified too many times,

What if you find something you weren't looking for?

Let me out,

In the sun,

In the light of the day.

Embrace me in the afternoon,

Succumb to me in the evening--

As we spend another sleepless night

Wrapped in one another's arms.

As we breathe in sync,

As our lips meet in the dark,

Let our actions say what we can no longer.

Let it be,

Let it be love,

Let your heart be open

To the possibilities it brings.

Use not a slide to see the future,

But you heart and mine.
