Well now that we have our relationship with The Son of God correctly aligned in our minds, now we can look at our relationship with our Christian brothers and sisters.
The first point to note is that you never know whether someone is your brother or sister. I am always excited to find out that someone is or has become my brother or sister. I just love knowing my family is getting bigger and there is someone else that Loves me and whom I can also Love. It is “really cool” as my children would say. I Love it.
Another thing you do not know is, what spiritual age your brother or sister, are at the moment. For example, you would never malign a baby and gossip behind their backs if they could not walk and talk at the age of 6 months would you? But Christians do that to each other all the time!
For the sake of Jesus, get your thinking straightened out.
Furthermore do not consider that because a person has been a Christian for many years that they are more spiritually mature or immature than you are. In a race, if one person starts walking and another waits a while and then starts running you cannot say which will win or who should be at which stage when. The intensity of your devotion to Jesus Christ and the Study of His Word and His Will and the speed with which you conquer temptations and evil strong holds in your life will determine the speed with which you mature spiritually. (Take the plank out of your own eye (Matt 7:1-5))
And lastly but most importantly you must understand that if someone claims to be a Christian and can say that Jesus is Lord he/she is your brother or sister (1 John 4:2). This means that no matter what they do, or say to hurt you, your loved ones, or anyone else, you have no right to hold it against them. They have been forgiven by Your Lord and Master to whom you Have to Submit your will, anger, frustration and every other negative feeling thought and emotion. Jesus chose to die for that sin they committed too. He paid a high price.
To be unforgiving when Jesus already paid the price to forgive that sin is to trample the blood of Jesus underfoot and Dishonour the very Jesus Christ you have pledged to honour. So you have to Love them and forgive them openly whether they deserve it or not, whether they continue to do it or not.
Gossipers, be warned!!! Jesus punishes those who cannot stop pouring forth filth from their mouths. Furthermore, if He has forgiven the sin that was committed which, you are gossiping about, then it has been thrown as far as the East is from the West and can be remembered no more. It never happened!!! This makes you a liar as well as a gossip. Do not be so quick to judge others, or God will judge you in the same light. (In this case on here-say, which is all that gossip is, and not on the real you) (Matt 7:1-5), (Mark 4:22-24). If others begin to Gossip, politely ask to leave the conversation or remain silently praying for all those speaking and those spoken about. If asked, boldly explain this principle to those who ask after your silence. You may be ostracised, but it would be better not to be a part of a crowd who intends to make you feel uncomfortable by continuing in your presence.
This does not mean you should remain silent. But all that is good, encouraging, pleasing, kind, whatever is of a good report, think on these things (Philippians 4:8-9). Speak these things and build up your brothers and sisters.
Give to your brothers and sisters whatever they need if you have surplus of that item, skill, talent and time. Do this at no cost, asking nothing in return and accepting whatever they choose to offer. Do not offend them by making them feel like they are poorer or less than you are, by refusing to accept an offering from them. For you will be rewarded for what you give (Luke 6:38) and you should not deny them their reward for giving to you.
