My name is Ema and I am 32 years old. I am an online member, recommited on 03/11/2006. I live in Northern Illinois, I am married and have two wonderful children, Mickael, 11 and Tamara, 5. I was born in France and had lived over there for 24 years but met my hubby in Germany.
I was not overweight "all my life". I was thin as a child, as a teenage girl and even after my first pregnancy. When I was pregnant with my son, I packed up 50 pounds, after I gave birth I lost quickly 22 lbs. Being really under my healthy weight in 1996, I was looking very good after having my first child.
In 1998, I decided to move in Germany where my sister was living with her husband. She was constantly calling me to come and visit so I came and visit. I decided to stay and found a job at... McDonald's, yes, yes, yes, you read clearly, McDonald's ! You couldn't imagine what I was having for dinner (I worked the 2nd shift): 1 soda, 1 Big Mac, 1 medium fries, 1 McFlurry ice cream. Every SINGLE time I was working there, and I worked for 7 months !! I am still wondering how I ate all that and didn't get sick !!! And you know what I weighed at that time ? Around 136... I walked a LOT ! To go back home (after work, at 1 o'clock in the morning), I walked. And my apartment at that time wasn't close, I can tell you. I walked more than 45 minutes, and the road was uphill. Then I got a bike, but still, it was a loooong way to go. It was very rare when I took a taxi (sometimes I had to, man !). While living in Germany, my sister introduce me to my (now) husband. Unfortunately, our relationship had ups and downs at that time (but that was me, not him), I had trust issue because of my last relationship (a drug addict and alcoholic guy, my son's biological father). M., my husband, came to the USA to start a new life (he was a refugee of war in Bosnia). Then after, I came to visit him (twice, three months each time) and the 3rd time I stayed and overstayed.
That's when all began ! I didn't have the right to work, of course, and I couldn't drive, so my fate was to stay home and sit, and eat out of boredom... That's when I pack up more than 60 pounds. I wasn't active at all, and I didn't have the tools to help me. We hadn't a computer at that time. I had never heard of WW neither.
This is my story, proof that it's better being inactive in Europe than in America.
