The MGA's Recent News! |
| |
As The MGA continues to grow, we find more ways to become a more diverse association. This time we have added the famous TCG Magic to our tournament and LAN scenerios. We hope to see alot of success comming from these tournaments. For our May event we are expecting close to ten Magic players. Tournaments will be set up with 1v1 brackets. The winner will recieve cash as a prize as usual. We will have the rules, cash prize, and sponsorship(s) on the website soon.
We are introducing, for Halo CE, Halo 2, SSBM, and Magic, Minor Events. These events will be similar to a lock-in and will be much cheaper than a Major Event. These Minor Events are set up for stress-free practice for The MGA Major Events. Our first Minor Event will be held on 4/15/06 and should prove to be a very good time. For more information on our Minor Events and the 4/15 Event then go to http://www.freewebs.com/the_mga/themgaeventinfo.htm

4/1 Event Conclusion! |
| |
After 3 huge, and successful tournaments and an all night LAN, we finally had to shut the doors of The MGA's second Event. With over 50 people in the tournaments and over 40 staying all night we had our hands full. We saw some of the most competitive gaming ever to go on in Metropolis, IL. We had several 'special guest' from out of town come: Nemo Pwnz, Willham, Terry15, Rob A, Zozefup, and about 10 others.
Results of the Tournament: (Complete list = http://s15.invisionfree.com/MetroGamingCommunity/index.php?showtopic=556)
Halo 1 FFA 1st Place went to Holy Pwnz. He took home $40. Halo 1 2v2 1st Place went to Team Blaze n Brownie. They took home $80. SSBM 1v11st Place went to Rob A. He took home $60. SSBM 2v2 1st Place went to Team Jesus Freaks. They took home $100. Halo 2 FFA 1st Place went to Nemo Pwnz. He took home $60. Halo 2 2v2 1st Place went to Team SnR. They took home $100.
We had one of the most amazing events with the Halo 1 finals going to a 8 game series after Team InS beat Team Blaze n Brownie in the Finals. Team InS came all the way back from the losers bracket to beat Team Blaze and Brownie in the finals. This threw Team Blaze n Brownie into the losers bracket for the first time all night which they had to replay Team InS for the championship. Team Blaze n Brownie won this set, however, making them the winners of the Halo 1 tournament. In the FFA for Halo 1, Holy Pwnz, destroyed the competitioin and in the 1v1's winning by 8 on his host.
In SSBM, the 1v1s offered some great game play between Joeology our remaining champ and Rob A. Rob A defeated Joeology in the 4th game in a 5 game series. The 2v2's were equaly has hard as Team Top Tier bearly lost to Team Jesus Freaks. The final game Team JsF only had 1 life left each. Rob A and Zozefup (Team JsF) showed us that the SSBM gaming level can be stepped up a notch or two. Also, Team Terry15 and Brawk (Team TT) showed us some impressive gameplay through out the tournament.
In Halo 2 FFA, Nemo Pwnz stepped it up a notch or two, by winning the FFA by close to 10. In the 2v2, we had some amazing game play between Team SnR, Team PYHs, Team Holy Pwnz n Phob0s. With the 2v2s comming to a close Team SnR and Team Holy Pwnz n Phob0s, duked it out showing some impressive team work on both sides. Team SnR, however, was more graceful with the Battle Rifles and took home the pot.
Some things to look for in the May Event are single elimination for all games. Edited Gametypes for all games. Seeding/Brackets will be determinded by Rank Points. Higher cash prize money for the Major tournaments. More LAN time, and more Bawls :)

MGA 4/1 Event Right Around the Corner! |
| |
The MGA 4/1 Event is this weekend. Make sure you prepay to ensure your stay all night. For this event our max limit is 50. We are expecting an amazing event with 3 Super Smash Bros. Melee stations, 2 Halo CE stations, 1 Halo 2 station, and 1 Xbox 360 station. Marketers suggest close to 40 for this event, but anything can happen. We have a couple of special guest that will be making their first appearance to The MGA. We have Terry15 comming from Anna IL, SiN is Sick comming from Benton KY, and Rob A comming from Vieanna IL. We wish them the best of luck at thier first MGA Event. For the low down on the 'star' teams to be entering this event go to http://s15.invisionfree.com/MetroGamingCommunity/index.php?showtopic=494 This is going to be a tough tournament for all games and all teams. I, personally, wish every team the best of luck.
On another note, we are introducing Minor Events to The MGA. These events will be held at Replay! VideoGames in Metropolis, IL. This is the wonderful video game store that supplies a lot of our equipment. Replay!, however, is not as big as the Dairy, thus our size limit is 20 and must be enforced. Our first minor event is still TBA, but one thing we are sure of is it will be in mid April. We hope that these minor events help with game time practice, competitive practice, and friendly practice. Admission will be much more cheaper than the major events.

The MGA's First Event Finally Over! |
| |
After 16 grueling hours of gaming, MGA closed it's doors on the hugest console gaming party Metropolis has seen. If you missed this event you truely missed an amazing event. At one point we had 23 gamers not including my 'personal staff'. It was hosted at the Dairy which was an amazing place with a stage, fifty feet of open space, a bar, and tables to eat your snacks at. We had four stations that were busy all night long. I must apoligize to some of our primary Halo 2 players, (Senat3, Daversy, and others) for not having a system link station for Halo 2, I promiss you for the April 1st Event we will. I do thank you for comming and participating in the Halo 1 stuff. The only complication we had was with the Halo 2 tv. We played Perfect Dark Zero, Halo 1, Halo 2 (split screen) and Super Smash Bros. Melee until we couldn't play anymore. We even had the legendary local band Two Truths Told stop by and say, "hey'.
We had an incredible Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament. Joe word came in first for the FFA and took home $25. One of our very own staff members, Dakota Babb (Phobos), came in second and took home $10. For our 2v2 Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament we had some insanly close match-ups. Team CAWA (Joe Word and Tim Day aka coo too tim) took first and got $50. Our second place was grabbed by Team DM1, which came all the way from the first round losers bracket! The Stoners came in 3rd by just bearly losing to Team DM1. Also, Useless Team came in 4th by bearly losing to The Stoners in a sneaky, but effective 2v1 at the last few seconds of the game. So everyone give a big round of applause to Joe Word for taking home $50, Time Day for taking home $25, and Dakota Babb (Phobos) for taking home $10. Everyone, also, give Team DM1 a big hand for coming back from the 1st round losers bracket to grab second place.
I would also like to thank my affliates for helping us to throw this major event. We gave out over 40 Hardee's coupons for free food. We gave out 8 Bob's Bowling Alley coupons for discounts and free bowling. Dominos supplied us with 25 cups filled with coupons for free and discounted food. I would also like to thank Replay for providing games and systems. I would like to thank Rent One for 3 very nice big tv's at a great price. And last, but not least, I would like to thank everyone from my staff to everyone that showed up! Without you guys none of this would be possible!
I hope everyone had a great time at this event. Everyone should be expecting some great success form The MGA. It is time to me to get some sleep. Thanks again to all who made this possible. I hope to see some of you guys that didnt make it to this event at the April 1st Event.
