| May is an extraordinary month in Waukesha County!
Traditionally it is often difficult for local playwrights to have their works presented on stages in their vicinities. Such is usually the case in Southeast Wisconsin. Some producers or organizations that have taken risks on new playwrights and lesser-recognized works have now disappeared into history.
It would seem theatres, and perhaps audiences, often prefer the predictable old stand-byes for live theatre entertainment. These great shows need to be seen and appreciated. But there are other presentations that help a community grow in thought, and understand themselves better. Plays written with “local pens” can help bind a community together, through the arts of playwriting, production, and acting.
Having said that, May is an extraordinary month in Waukesha County! Not one, but two original works will be presented on local stages, that were written by pairs of local creative dramatists.
In THE HEIGHTS, Cramer and Renick are out to give a voice to that ever-growing population of 55-And-Overs. Although there is a little mystery and a little skullduggery to the plot, these writers use broad humor to present human spirit and resourcefulness at its finest.
THE HEIGHTS will be present by The Villages Players Inc. on the Mukwonago High School Stage: Fridays and Saturdays May 13th, 14th, 20th & 21st, and one matinee Sunday May 15th Tickets: 262-363-2225.
Gregerson and Hundhausen’s IMMIGRANT STORIES poses the fascinating question: what happened to the descendents of 30 local families since their forebears came to America? Through music, photographs, and often humorous personal accounts, these local dramatists bring audiences these warm and colorful stories ranging from pre-Revolutionary days to the present, and begin continents and countries far away, over boarders and across oceans.
IMMIGRANT STORIES will be presented by the Waukesha Civic Theatre: Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays April 29th through May 15th. Tickets: 262-547-0708.
