DAVE’S RANT

I WAS A BIT PISSED OFF THIS WEEKEND WITH THE LACK OF SUPPORT NOT JUST FROM OUR CLUB BUT THE MK 2 LAND AS A WHOLE IT TAKES A LOT OF TIME AND EFFORT TO PUT ON AN EVENT AND JUST BECAUSE THERE’S A LITTLE RAIN ON THE CARDS PEOPLE STAY AT HOME AND CANT BE ARSED WELL THERE ARE ONLY 2 SHOWS A YEAR FOR MK 2 OWNERS TO GET TOGETHER SO YOU NEED TO GET YOUR CARS OUT AND SUPPORT BOTH CLUBS

NOW THE SHOW

The plan was to meet at sandbach services at 9am and because im normally late i blame it on her in doors and as she wasn’t coming I had to make sure I got there early and I did but not as early as bri (two dogs) but i got there before Bernie. After a phone call to see where he was he arrives. So we set off Bernie leading the way and I didn’t know what was going to let us down first Bernies newly M.O.T ed zodiac which hasn’t been on the road for the past 17yrs or his sat nav

Straight down the M6 on to the A14 and then turned of onto a B road only to find it coned off for about 100yards with nothing in between ???? so bernies sat nav to the rescue it redirected us through some small villages and farm yards and one time I thought we were going through a field because the lane we were on was that narrow we were hitting the bushes either side of us but we ended up on the main road that lead to the event.

On arrival we were greeted by Mick Taylor who invited us on a cruise that would be leaving in 20 mins but we had to decline we had just been driving for 4hrs and we still had the tents to put up. There was a gale force 10 wind blowing  and 3 blokes trying to put up 3 tents it looked more like a tent flying competition and I won because I had the biggest tent

so when we had finally put them up we decided to use them and get are head down for an hour. Once awake we had a beer something to eat then had a beer then off to the pub and had a beer when we came back we invaded micks tent to finish off our beer and tell a few jokes and stories (thanks mick for making us feel so welcome)

SUNDAY

Got up to more wind and rain and had breakfast and they started to arrive one after another forming an impressive line of consuls, zephyrs and zodiacs with over 34 cars turning up and that’s not all there were a couple of  Vauxhalls a velox and a wonderful looking pink cresta a couple of Citroens and a mk1 capri.

So it was time to venture out and look at the spare parts people were selling and the stalls from goldendays, Bill and Sarah with the chrome bits and Arthur with all sorts. Bernie picked up all the bits he ordered for his zodiac and we must have spoken to everyone there during the day and most  praised our little club in the northwest and had good comments about the website forum and the events we go to. Also during the day Mick had a tombola and I won myself a 122 piece multi tool kit and he had a raffle with some fantastic  prizes to be won with up to £250 going to charity on the day so well done for that  and then it was trophy time and Brian won 2 of them one for the furthest travelled (I still think Bernie should of got that the amount of times he gets lost with that gas fuelled sat nav he puts on an extra 20 miles each trip) and the other was for the best everyday car (which was mine last year) well done to you bri

when I looked down the line of mk 11s with the curves and the chrome shining in the sunshine that made an appearance between showers it made me realise why I keep going to these shows I love the cars so much and you don’t get to see so many together at one time as you do here at mk11 weekend thanks Mick for putting on a great show

the drive home was trouble free and bernies zoddy came through with flying colours the sat nav didn’t do to bad either

the 50th birthday girl will be making its debut at the club on the next meet again thanks Mick, Brian and Bernie
