Artemis Fowl

Eoin Colfer

Stay back, human. You don't know what you're dealing with.

Twelve-year-old Artemis Fowl is a millionaire, a genius --and, above all, a criminal mastermind. But even Artemis doesn't know what he's taken on when he kidnaps a fairy, Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon Unit. These aren't the faries of bedtime stories - they're dangerous! Full of unexpected twists and turns, Artemis Fowl is a riveting, magical adventure.

Yeah. Can anyone say, corny? But it's good. Yes, Bug, Artemis Fowl is a brat. But he grows out of it. That's one of the whole themes of the books. It's sort of young for me, but I like it *adopts defensive position*

And, by the way, there is no better line than "I don't like lollipops".

The Arctic Incident

Eoin Colfer

The worlds youngest, brightest, and most dangerous criminal is back.

At the start of his second adventure, Artemis is at a boarding school in Ireland when he recieves an urgent video e-mail from Russia. In it is a plea from a man who has been kidnapped by the Russian Mafia - a man Artemis had thought he would never see again: his beloved father.

As Artemis rushes to his rescue, he is stopped by a familiar nemesis, Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon fairy police. But this time, instead of a battling the faries, he is going to have to join forces with them if he wants to save one of the few people in the world he loves.

Artemis is back. Yay! This is the one book in the series that I am constantly losing. It's not like I read it a lot, but somehow it's the only one I ever lose. Funny how that happens. Anyway, now that I have found it hidden under the mound of trumpet music and last year's school supplies in my basement (along with all the people who insulted Artemis in front of me - they are chained to the wall of my hidden room), I can put up the summary!

The Eternity Code

Eoin Colfer

Artemis Fowl is going straight - as soon as he pulls off the most brilliant criminal feat of his career...

After being held prisoner for years, Artemis Fowl's father has finally come home. He is a new man - an honest man, much to Artemis' horror. He makes his son promise to give up his life of crime, and Artemis has to go along with it. But not until he has completed one last scheme.

Artemis has constructed a super computer from stolen fairy technology. Called the "C Cube", it will render all human technology obsolete. He arranges a meeting with a powerful Chicago buisnessman, Jon Spiro, to broker a deal for the C Cube. But Spiro springs (Salali laughs at the alliteration) a trap - he steals the C Cube and mortally injures Butler. Artemis knows his only hope of saving his loyal bodyguard is to employ fairy magic; so once again he must contact his old rival, Captain Holly Short of the LEPrecon fairy police.

It's going to take a miracle to save Butler, and Artemis's luck may have just run out...

Just so you know, the whole saving Butler thingy takes up about two chapters. It's the taking the C Cube from Spiro and making sure he doesn't learn about the faries that is the real plot.

The Opal Deception

Eoin Colfer

After his last run-in with the faries, Artemis Fowl had his mind wiped of of his memories of the world belowground. And goodness he had grudgingly learned is now gone, and the young genius has reverted to his criminal lifestyle.

Artemis is in Berlin, preparing to steal a famously well-guarded painting from a German bank. Little does he know that his every move is being watched by his cunning old rival, Opal Koboi. The evil pixie has spent the last year in a self-induced coma, plotting her revenge on all those who foiled her attempt to destroy the LEPrecon fairy police. And Artemis is at the top of her list. In a brilliant move, Opal escapes by cloning herself, and masquerading as a human in order to carry out her schemes. Her first act is to lure Captain Holly Short and Commander Root into a deadly trap. Her next trap is to destroy Artemis by turning his own genius against him.

Once again, it's up to Artemis Fowl to stop the human and fairy worlds from colliding - only this time, Artemis faces an enemy who may finally have outsmarted him...

Argh! I can't say anything about the rest of the book, cause basically the entire plot is them chasing down Opal. But they don't have LEPrecon fairy support, 'cause of something that happens in Chapter 3 which I can't tell you about (because that would be spoiling). Don't worry - Artemis gets his memories back. But it's not 'til halfway through the book.

The Lost Colony

Eoin Colfer

Thousands of years ago, faries and humans fought a great battle for the magical island of Ireland. When it became clear they could not win, all the faries moved belowground - except for the 8th Family, the demons. Rather than surrender, they used a magical time spell to take their colony out of time and into Limbo. There they have lived for decades, preparing to exact their violent revenge on humans.

Now the time spell is unraveling, and demons are beginning to materialize without warning on Earth. If humans were to find out about them, all faries would be exposed. To protect themselves, the faries must predict when the next demon will materialize. But in order to do so, they must decipher temporal equations so complicated, even a great brain like Foaly can't understand them. But he knows someone who can: Artemis Fowl.

So when a very confused demon imp shows up in a Sicilian theatre, Artemis is there to meet him. But he is not alone. There's someone else who has unlocked the secrets of the fairy world and managed to solve complex mathematical problems only a genius could. And she's only twelve years old...

Hey! Twelve years old, genius, knows the secrets of the fairy world - sound like anyone we know? Yes, little children, Minerva Paradizo has arrived! She's French (country of love), got blonde curls (exactly the opposite of a dumb blonde), and Artemis' IQ (or therabouts). I can hear the Artemis'/Holly shippers screaming in anger. *Joins the angry screaming* I suppose it's not really an "I want him" thing, it's more of a "I don't want HER to have him" thing.

No1 is pretty cool. That would be the demon/imp that pops up. If any of you have read Keys to the Kingdom: Grim Tuesday, he's similar to the thesaurus man that Arthur meets in the pit. I can't remember his name for the life of me (Later note: The name is Japeth). But anyway, No1 spouts synonyms of words as a way to relieve stress. It's pretty funny.

Artemis Fowl: The Time Paradox

After disappearing for three years, Artemis Fowl has returned to  life different from the one he had. Now he's a big brother, and spends his days teaching his twin siblings the important things in life, such as how to properly summon a waiter at a French restaurant.
But when Artemis's mother contracts a life-threatening illness, his world is turned upside-down. The only hope for a cure lies in the brain fluid of the silky sifaka lemur. Unfortunately, the animal is extinct, due to a heartless bargain Artemis himself made as a younger boy.
Though the odds are stacked against him, Artemis is not willing to give up. With the help of his fairy friends, the young genius travels back in time to rescue the lemur and bring it to the present. But to do so, Artemis will have to defeat a maniacal poacher who has set his sights on new prey: Holly Short.
The rules of time travel are far from simple, but to save his mother, Artemis will have to break them all... and outsmart his most cunning adversary yet: Artemis Fowl, age ten.

TTP was released on July 15, while I was in a separate country. I'm sure all of you remember the threat I posted on here (something about knitted spleens, wasn't it?) if you spilled spoilers before I read it. Ah, the good times.
Anyway, this one is really fun. Artemis gets to prove just how much he's changed since the People came into his life, and there's even a little H/A. Minerva isn't in it, which makes it even better. Once again, Colfer delivers a mixture of science fiction, magic, and hilarity.

Fans of the series won't want to be caught (above or underground) without it...

It's pretty fun. Some people managed to crack the Gnommish code running along the bottoms of the first, third, fourth, and fifth books, but I needed the handy key in this book. There's really only one crossword and one wordsearch, but they're fun... until you've finished them. And I just figured out that the code running vertically down the right side of the cover means "Top Secret".

You've met Artemis Fowl... now see him in actoin.

In 2001, readers met and fell in love with a twelve-year-old genius named Artemis Fowl. Since then, the series has sold in the millions all over the world. Now this phenomenally successful series is being translated into a graphic novel format.

For the first time, rabid fans will be able to see the underground fairy world, examine Foaly's incredible inventions, look inside Fowl Manor, and of course follow their favorite criminal mastermind as he plots and connives in glorious full-color panels that bristle with action.

So, yeah. I really don't know why Artemis's hair is square-shaped. It's kind of odd.. I tried doing a collage for Artemis like I did Hatori, except I drew in the shadows and it looked really bad. Maybe next time I will not the shadows draw. They cut out the lollipops line! I'm gonna go cry...

It's still good. EC did the original story line, AD did the translating (from novel to graphic novel) (I think he did, at least), GR did the drawing, and PL did the coloring. Wouldn't that be an amazing job? To just color stuff people had already drawn, and get paid for it?
