Physical InformationMost Dionaea have a pretty unique physical shape, however they all share a few basic traits, Such as 3-6 Tentacle like roots that spread out from the base of a snake like body. And a pair of normally matching tendrils coming off of the back, however these can come in several different forms… Two long and thick ones that usually thin down to about half the diameter or less near the end, Another type are ones made out like a branch, usually a thicker sturdy one coming out from either side with many small off shoots that come off to fill out an area. Another type is many smaller, vine like appendages that shoot off from around the same area on the back. The last currently known, and studied one is a multitude of miniscule vines that are intertwined with each other to form one, or more thicker and sturdier limbs… It is a rather rare trait, and usually is considered undesirable, because of how easy it is for rot to start in the inner layers.Another common trait between the Dionaea are the teeth, As with the vines, or limbs that come off the back there are several different types, and still more being discovered. The first, and most common type is the Carnivore teeth, they usually appear slightly thorn like, and are curved inwards so that things may not get away so easily once bitten… It is usually used against rodents, although it could easily apply to larger creatures. The second type of teeth are the Flytrap style, oversized incisors that protrude from the mouth even when closed, and form an interlocking pattern with each other… Most of the time these are simply used for trapping bugs, but… If the Dionaea has a large enough bite to actually secure something with these, it is a VERY unpleasant experience. The third type is dozens, and dozens of needle like incisors, forming something of a mesh within the creatures mouth, these teeth can give anyone a pretty big scare, but most of them are actually really flimsy and bendable. The only real way to get injured by them would be to attempt to reach down the Dionaea throat… And then you’d be asking for it anyways… The primary use of these are to strain unwanted material out of water, and trap edible insects at the same time. |
DietFor the most part, they don’t eat anything. Absorbing most of what they need from the ground while they rest at night, and either drinking water or simply letting it absorb through their roots. Many of them will eat insects, if they have the capability to catch them, and some of the carnivorous ones will eat rodents occasionally… However it is very rare for them to take on anything larger than their stomach, because it’s really not that useful for them since it would be pretty rotten by the time they could eat again anyways… Because on average, it takes them a week to digest a full meal of meat before being able to eat again. Unfortunately most of the nutrients they like are carried primarily in blood, so some of the really unpleasant ones may kill something and simply drink as much blood as it can, leaving the corpse behind to rot…BehaviorThe Dionaea are sentient and while not all are exceptionally intelligent... They are still intelligent in their own right, and have individual personalities. Most of them are friendly and somewhat helpful, a lot simply don’t know why they would want to be mean, and don’t understand it… However many of the more pervasive plants, or weed like ones have managed to accomplish it, despite that fact… Needless to say, Most of the Dionaea refuse to associate with ones that have purposefully harmed people/sentient beings. When they start out they act pretty much like you would expect a plant to act, but as they are interacted with, and 'hang' around with creatures they begin to mimick their behaviours, and eventually even style of thinking... However it can be a long process before they really begin to understand why people or things do what they do. IE: you can teach them to do something realitively easily but they won't neccesarily understand why they are doing it. To this extent you can pretty much just decide how far your own Dionaea has progressed, but keep in mind that a young one will not have had the time to learn any of the complicated thoughts or ideas. |
