Tournaments
Congratulations to the entire team for terrific performances at the GYSC Battlefield Blast tournament in Gettysburg, PA. The Twisters were seeded in second place and held their own against very good competition. The girls showcased their hard nosed style, battling for every ball and keeping pressure on their opponents. In addition, the team started to demonstrate its ability to "control" games by some very good passing and patience with the ball. Kudos to everyone for giving 100% in the heat and at times without many substitutions.
Our next tournament will be the George Pratt Memorial Columbus Day tournament in Cape May county, NJ. Please make your travel arrangements early to avoid getting closed out of choice hotel accomodations.
Team Events
The Twisters will hold their first team event by attending the Villanova University Women's Soccer game vs. UPENN on September 23rd at 3:00 pm. We will caravan over to the soccer complex immediately after our game vs. Radnor. This will be a fun team building activity while the team will learn from the big girls playing !!
The Women's World Cup will kick off on September 10th in China with Germany taking on Argentina. This is the top women's tournament in the world and has been held once every four years since 1991. The Women's World Cup was last held in the US in 2003. Three countries have ever won the women's finals: US 2, Germany 1, Norway 1. The US team led by Mia Hamm came in third in 2003. This year, USA striker, Christine Lilly will be one of a select group of only four players to have played in all Women's World Cup tournaments. She will be leading a very talented USA team to hopefully another world championship.
