Match Byelaws 

 

1.         All fish to count except sea fish and game fish.

 

If the competition is fished on the waters of another Society, the fish size limits required by that Society shall be observed.

2.         All Society competitions other than those indicated in the fixture list will be pegged down with a minimum of 10 yards between pegs where possible.

3.         One rod with one hook only may be used in all matches, with the exception of matches fished at night and pike and carp trophy matches but other rods may be assembled.  Each competitor shall, without assistance, hook and play his own fish but they may be assisted with the final netting of the fish.  No competitor may break the water before the starting signal, except for the purpose of mixing groundbait, the placing of banksticks and keepnets and the plumbing of depth and must cease to fish when the final signal is given.  Each competitor must keep his fish in his own keepnet.  For the purpose of pike fishing a snap tackle shall be considered as one hook.

4.         Fishing times as stated on the fixture list.  The draw for the pegs shall start ONE hour before the start and no entries will be accepted after the start of the draw.  Peg numbers when drawn shall not be transferred.  On Roving matches no competitor shall deposit any tackle in any swim prior to the draw, nor shall any competitor leave the draw until his number has been called, lowest number first, and shall not overtake a competitor with a lower number until that competitor stops or nominates a swim.

5.            Keepnets used in Society competitions shall not be less than 10 feet in length with rings of not less than eighteen inches in diameter.  Carp may be retained in a suitable submerged sack approved by the Match Steward.  Anglers must carry two keepnets in evening 3 hour and club 6 hour matches at Sutton at Hone.

6.         On “Pegged Down” matches the stewards shall be the LOWEST TWO and the HIGHEST TWO Senior members drawn.  On “Rover” matches the LOWEST TWO Senior Members drawn shall be the stewards.  The decision of the Stewards on all competition matters shall be final provided that they are not contrary to the Rules and Byelaws of the Society.

7.         Every member shall be eligible to take part in any competition, unless barred by the conditions of the competition or by the Rules of the Society.

8.         All cups and trophies shall be returned to the Society not later than 1st March each year.

9.         No livebaiting, deadbaiting, or spinning is permitted in matches other than the Potters Pike or other special competition arranged by the Match Sub-Committee.

10.       The venue of matches notified in the fixture list shall be changed only (a) by the decision of the majority of those present at the venue at the time of the draw that the venue is unfishable, or (b) by the coach steward at the starting point of the journey if it is known that the venue is unfishable or that the conditions make the journey inadvisable.

11.       Carp over 8lb must not be retained in nets on club matches at Sutton at Hone, Horton Kirby or Brooklands.  Such fish must be weighed and released as soon as possible.

12.       Special conditions relating to awards and trophies.  Unless otherwise stated, awards are made for the heaviest weight of fish caught during the competition.

 

(a)        The holder of the Champion Angler and runners-up cups shall be decided on a percentage basis over all pegged down Society matches.  The Champion Angler series shall consist of 16 matches.  An angler’s best 14 results from the series shall count towards his Champion Angler points tally.

(b)        Gerry Savage Trophy (Junior Champion Angler) shall be awarded to the top Junior member who has scored most points over the specified matches decided on a percentage basis.

©         The holder of the Winter Trophy shall be decided on a percentage basis on all Society matches held between 1st November and the end of the season.

(d)        Foster Cup – Juniors only.  No parents or adults are allowed to approach the competitors during the match.

(e)        Queen Mary Cup – Lady members only.

(f)         Wat Tyler Cup – Novices.  Open to any member not having won any of the Society’s Senior Trophies.

(g)        Night Hawk Cup – All night competition.  Adult members only.

(h)        Arthur Pile Memorial Cup – For the highest total weight of three fish weighed in at the match.

(i)         Potters Pike Cup – only pike will be weighed in this match.

(j)         Sutton Trophy – For the highest aggregate weight of fish taken by a member at all senior matches at Sutton during the season.

(k)        John Wright Memorial Trophy – Awarded annually at the discretion of the Committee for the best specimen fish, including pike, taken from Society waters other than in competitions by any members.  Claims to be accompanied either by a photograph of the fish and a signed statement of at least one witness, or by the signed statement of the Bailiff or Committee member present at the time.

(l)         Carp trophy – Only carp will be weighed in on this match.  Awarded for the highest aggregate weight caught during the competition.

(m)            Dartford Twenty Plus club – a special badge will be awarded to a member who catches from Society Waters, a fish of 20lbs or more.  Claimants to complete a form available from the Club Office as soon as possible after catch and send it immediately to the Hon. Sec., Lake House, Walnut Tree Avenue.  Claims must be accompanied by either a photograph of the fish and the signature of at least one witness or by the statement of the Bailiff or Committee member present at the time.

(n)            Heaviest Fish Shield – For the heaviest fish of any species taken by a member in any competition, match or organised outing during the season.

(o)        George Harvey Memorial cup – For the heaviest tench taken in Society competitions during the season.

(p)        Senor Citizen Trophy – A mid-week Rover competition for old age pensioner members.

(q)            Specimen Fish Trophies – awarded for the best specimens recorded each year being caught in Society competitions.  It is the responsibility of the member to request that his fish be separately weighed and recorded.

®         Darenth Valley Trophy – Awarded for the highest aggregate weight taken by a member in the three pegged down competitions, one each at Horton Kirby, Sutton and Dartford.

 

13.       For all club matches involving a coach journey there shall be an entrance fee of £5.00, which shall be deducted from the coach fare of those using the coach.  Any member wishing to travel by his own transport MUST notify the match committee in order that he shall be included in the draw, which shall take place on the coach.
