| Trike's Revisited |

|
| |
When I found this Trike it was behind a garage with lumber and trash and about 10 year's of brush growth around it
I asked the man what was he going to do with it and he told me he bought it because a friend of his had one and he wanted one, so he bought it and it has been there every since.
So I asked him if he wanted to sell it and he finally agreed and so I gave him $100.00 and hauled it home.
And as you can see there was no front end, handle bars, triple trees and the mic came running out from every place there was a hole. sacred me.
And that sissy bare cute huh was selling point (lol).

Well any way ,After about an hour of pressure washing it, whe put it up on jack stands and went to work to see what was there. Not much of anything salvageable as far as wirering and gages and every bit of rubber was gone, I mean gone not a trace.
And the body's gelcoat was history, but was salvageble we think? But no big cracks thru the glass that we could see.
So we got out the tools Craig ran up and filled the ice chest(got to have our coolade, colorado that is) lol and went to work stipping everything that was removeable.
It was scary because we kept finding kritter's but it was fun and we had a blast. |

As you look at the seats they look good huh well all you had to do was touch them, And they would crumbled in your hand. So new seats were on the list.
See the sissy bar cool huh it was held on by two wood screws, Scary huh and as we got deeper into it,It got even worse. I am so glad the guy I got it from never tride to ride it.
After we got the body off, we found that it was almost ready to break in half because who ever welded it before did it to hot and crystalized the welds.( when welding a frame always no your heats and materials) so that does not happen . |
| |
After we got it totaly torn down, and I went to work. I had the frame sand blasted. That way there was no posible way to miss the cracks , and was able to see if there was any rust damage, and there was.
So after I rebiult the front section I painted the frame and traded the transaxle in for a rebuilt one. I reworked the brakes, new drums, wheel cylinders and shoes and srings, and replaced the break lines(All of them).
I then started to asemble the rear section and repaced all the hard ware(nuts bolts and so forth).

I decided to keep the original blue flake. So craig who was one of the best glass men I know, restored it back to its original state and reinforced it in a few places that perticular body was weak in.
I was busy painting all the nuts and bolts to match the colors I decided on black and blue.I love detail, to me that is what gives it a personality (corney huh).
I found a gold wing front end and had it extented 4inches and rechromed and new seals.
It came with the stock 19 inch wheel that was in good shape but I respoked it just because (lol)

I tore down the engine and lucked out it was a virgin 1600 dual relief case, so decided to build a 1776 (love that motor) so I took it to the shop and picked up a counter balanced stock crank and had it all balanced.had some old 041 heads and rebuilt them picked up a lil 110 cam, ratio rocfers and some swivile feet and went to work It came out sweet.
If you go to Trikes Revisited 2 you will see the finished product. (cya there) |
