Here is a little history on how I got introduced to Trike's
When I was 18 I bought a 59 pan and went to work chopping, Chroming and painting, And thought I was really cool and tuff (ha ha ha) and I ran with a pretty ruff crowd (outlaw) And after awhile I woke up and got out.
Then I met a guy by the name of Denny Bachek (now deceased) where I worked, We became friends and then one day he invited me to go to his favorite bar. It was the Timber Inn on the corner of Holder and Ball (kinda cool huh) in Cypress Calif. When we pulled into the parking lot to my amazement it was full of VW Trike's, There must have been 10 of them.
This is where I met the Bar owner Charlie Crowfoot Who we all called "POP" and his wife Trudy who took care of all of us.
I met Bob Quinton (yes the one who is in Big Daddy Roth's book Trikes), Andy Jusko, Richard (Pineapple), Mexican Jim and Nick who eventually some years later bought the bar when Charlie retired. And many other's. The best group of guy's anyone could ever know, They had an informal club they called the ( Trike Ons ) and have been credited in helping to perfect the VW trike to where it is today. And as far as anyone can tell was one of the first Trike Clubs if not the First one.
I thought this is my chance to harass a bunch of sissy "Trike rider's" you know that cool thing. I rode a Harley and they didn't "hahahaha"
This was the coolest bar and these guy's were more fun than you can imagine. To make a long story short we road together. And one friday we were going to go to Lake Isabella and my bike went down dropped a cylinder and I was out. (think they did something to it) "ha ha ha "
One of the guy's told me I could use one of his Trike's and still go if I wanted to. So after a lot of teasing back and fourth I Finnaly gave in and rode it. WOW I thought as we were riding there, This is nothing like I had expected and when I got there I did not have to lean against a tree for an hour and drink alot of Beer to get rid of the back ache from my hard tail (ha ha ha). And the best thing was I could carry more BEER.
When I got home I was sold and I went to work. I hustled me up a frame and a body and all the rest of the things I needed. I bought an old bug and barrowed the shop where I worked. I went to the Timber Inn and partied Friday night and went to the shop and took a nap or passed out not sure but was awaken to someone pounding on the door and when I opened it ( you got it ) the TRIKE ONS were standing there with full ice chest and smiles on there faces and we went to work . Beleve it or not. I test rode it around the parking lot Sunday night Like I said before the greatest bunch anyone could have. It took about a week to finish all the lighting and other things and I registered it.
