Terry Boys' Soccer

A new day. A new beginning.

The 2007 Terry Bulldogs Boys' Soccer team has a new look with the promotion of Coach K. Orr.  Coach Orr previously assisted both the boys' and girls' teams and helped lead them both to the 4A State Tournament last year.  Last year's team finished with an overall record of 12-9-1 highlighted with a victory over Warren Central and a historic playoff victory over Long Beach.  Terry High School has made the jump to 5A which means tougher competition.  The Bulldogs will face perennial powers such as Clinton, Brandon, and Madison Central.  The competition will ultimately make the team stronger in their quest for the Division 6-5A championship.

Coach Orr brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to the Bulldogs' soccer team.  He was one of the first four-year letterwinners as a member of the Murrah Mustangs team from 1991-1994.  In 1991, he won the Best Defensive Player Award as a defender and in 1994 won the 100 Percent Award.  The Mustang Soccer team made the state playoffs in 1991 and 1993.  Coach Orr also helped guide the Mustangs to a 9-9 record as an assistant coach in 1999.

News

Tryouts will be held Saturday, May 17 at the Terry High School field in front of the baseball stadium at 10 a.m.

Congratulations go out to Tyler Catchot, Wes Price, Drew Hille, J.T. Coward, Kyle Delong, and Van Killen as the baseball team will compete for a 5A South State championship this week against Ocean Springs.

The THS boys' soccer team defeated Natchez 5-0 on January 26 to capture the Division 6-5A championship.  It was the first division championship for the Bulldogs in 4 years.  Scoring goals in that game were Drew Hille, Kent Milsap, and Wes Price.  The Bulldogs hosted Meridian in horrible conditions on January 29 and lost a very hard fought game, 1-0.  Horrible conditions were really the story for the 2007-2008 season.  The Bulldogs had at least 6 winnable matches cancelled because of bad weather which left a huge void.  There was never really the chance to get into a groove because one minute there's practice, and the next minute, the game is called off.  The team is very optimistic about next year because each player understands that they have the ability to reach the state championship game.

Wes Price signed a soccer scholarship to attend Holmes Community College.  Wes has been selected as a 2008 Mississippi Association of Coaches All-Star.  He will play in the All-Star game on June 14 at Hinds Community College.

Jamie Hardy signed a soccer scholarship to attend Delta State University.

Ryan Weaver was selected to play in the prestigious Max Emfinger All-American Bowl Game Classic as a punter/kicker.  He also won Division 6-5A individual doubles and team tennis championships and competed in the 5A state team and individual tournaments.

Crystal Springs and Florence are guaranteed for home-home series next year.  Coach Regan is the head boys' and girls' coach at Crystal Springs.

The season-ending banquet took place February 28 at Hillcrest Baptist Church.  Drew Hille was named MVP and Best Offensive Player, Jamie Hardy won the Best Defensive Player awards, and Wes Price won the Bulldog Award.  1st team All Division 6-5A members were Drew Hille, Jamie Hardy, Tyler Catchot, and Wes Price.  2nd team All Division 6-5A members were J.T. Coward, Kent Milsap, and Justin Bailey.

The Players

21 Jamie Hardy (Captain)   Senior defender- Combines great size, speed, and physicality to be the anchor of the Bulldog defense.  Jamie brings a business-like attitude to the field whether it's practice or a game.  He has great size, a strong leg, good recovery speed, makes very few errors, and is a very classy player.

15 Wes Price (Captain)   Senior midfielder- Solid player that can play in any midfield spot.  Wes possesses wonderful touch with great ball control on both feet, a good throw, and most importantly, a great soccer sense.  Wes has always been a model soccer player no matter the situation.  Will always give 110 percent.  Member of the 2007 4A South State Championship baseball team as a second baseman.  Solid glove and great hitter.

22 Ryan Weaver   Senior forward- Sensational goal scorer.  He has excellent ball control and can score of free kicks.  Possesses an aggressive attitude, has a good throw, and is one of the corner kick specialists.  Amazingly finished second in scoring last year after missing the first four games to football.  Started in football as a kicking specialist and was a member of the 2007 4A South State Championship baseball team.  Has the distinct honor of winning a division championship in 3 sports.

5 Timmy Hill   Senior midfielder/forward- A complete player that can silently take a game over at any time.  Possesses excellent ball control and a knack for the perfect set-up.  Timmy is good with both feet and is a great corner and free kick striker.  Will see action at both the midfield and forward spots and is expected to score often this year.

4 Bradley Gallaher  Senior defender- Will primarily be used as an outside defender.  Bradley possesses a great mentality, physicality, recovery speed, and a long throw.  Had a great club season as a defender with SW Jackson.  Vocal leader on the field.  Looking forward to Bradley having a great year as he continues to improve his overall game.

3 Andy Dickson  Senior midfielder/forward- One of the great things about Andy is his versatility.  He has played forward, midfield, defender, and keeper and did a heads-up job at each spot.  Combines great size and physicality.  Was a member of the 2006 Division 6-4A Championship football team as a tight end and started this year on the offensive line.

1 J.T. Coward  Junior midfielder/defender- Has improved his game after posting a wonderful club season with SW Jackson.  Possesses  great size, a strong leg, and a great attitude.  J.T. is another versatile player that can be used at any spot on the field.  Started at keeper in the 2nd round of the 4A State Playoffs last year and surprisingly left a great mark on the field as a defender.  The toughest part is trying to figure out where he needs to be on the field because he will do a great job anywhere.   Member of the 2007 4A South State Championship baseball team.

7 Tyler Catchot  Junior keeper- One of the most underrated keepers in the state because of his ability to make very athletic saves to keep Terry in close matches.  Tyler has improved his skills at surveying the whole field to be a safety net for his defenders and to start quick counters on throws.  Started 23 of 24 matches last year.  Missed one due to illness.  Continues to improve basic skills and toughness everyday.  Also a member of the 2007 4A South State Championship baseball team and unbelievably is an accomplished tennis player.

8 Van Killen  Junior keeper/midfielder- Backup keeper to Catchot last year.  Started as the JV keeper and posted 3 shutouts as the JV team finished 3-0-2.  Earned the nickname "The Man" for his role in the success of the JV team last year.  Van is the type of player that a coach dreams of.  He always gives his best and is always about being a team player.  Made an impact on the field as a midfielder by setting up numerous scoring opportunities.  Also a member of the 2007 4A South State Championship baseball team as a 3rd baseman/catcher.

10 Bryson Wright  Junior forward- A driven soccer player that can break a game wide open with his play.  Scored a team high 22 goals and scored 2 goals in last year's historic playoff victory against Long Beach.  Bryson possesses great size, speed, physicality, and a knack for scoring.  Looking forward to Bryson improving upon the great season he had last year.  Was a member of the 2006 Division 6-4A Championship football team and started as a doubles specialist  with the tennis team.

11 Justin Bailey  Junior defender- Has really stepped up this year at defender.  Quickly made the jump from JV to varsity.  Possesses great ball control, recovery speed, and a player's mentality.  Enjoyed success with his SW Jackson club team.  Justin can quietly shut an offensive player down and can open up counters with his ball control.

13 Drew Hille  Junior midfielder- Possesses all the skills to make it to the next level.  Drew has a knack for being in the right place at the right time.  Currently leads the team in scoring primarily at the stopper position.  Will play anywhere on the field.  Has started games at sweeper, stopper, center mid, and forward.  Possesses a deft touch, great ball control, great speed, and a winner's attitude.  Has had success playing at the rec. and select levels.  Also a member of the 2007 4A South State Championship baseball team.

2 Kyle Upchurch  Sophomore midfielder- Not so "Lil' Up" anymore.  Has grown about 5 inches since last year which is all he really needs to add to his already great ability.  Kyle possesses great ball control, a powerful and accurate shot, and the ability to create scoring opportunities from any midfield spot on the field.  Looking forward to Kyle being one of the difference makers in the second half of the season.  In addition to his on-field exploits, he is a great student and possesses a great attitude.

6 Ken Delaughter  Sophomore defender- Ken has steadily improved his game over the course of two years.  Started at sweeper with the undefeated JV team and jumped right into the varsity mix as a starting central defender.  As he has grown physically, he's added speed and the toughness needed to be successful at the high school level.  Possesses good ball handling skills and will be called upon to start counters from the back.  Had a great club season with SW Jackson.

12 Kyle Delong  Sophomore midfielder/forward- Possesses great skill and the toughness needed to compete with some of the best teams in the state.  Kyle is also willing to play any spot on the field.  Has seen action at midfielder, forward, and defender.  Will eventually get a shot in the goal as a keeper.  Also a member of the 2007 4A South State Championship baseball team.

26 Chelo Ambrosio  Sophomore midfielder/forward- Chelo can be seen all over the field.  He has the understanding that quality players don't play one area of the field.  Has a knack for making great runs, setting up scoring opportunities, and putting the ball in the back of the net.  Scored 3 goals against Richland earlier this year.  Has a willingness to play any spot he is needed.  Optimistic that Chelo will improve more and more as the season moves along.

9 Jacob Abbey  Freshman defender/midfielder- Probably the most improved player on the team.  Has gone from a sometimes timid player to a tough, vocal leader.  Jacob has grown mentally and physically since the 8th grade, and it's always a pleasure watching him play.  Has improved his ball handling and defensive skills.  Right now, he's primarily used as a JV starter but will make the transition to varsity very quickly.  Always a dedicated and spirited player.

17 Taylor Loftin  Freshman defender-  Taylor has improved greatly as the anchor of the JV defense.  Known for making lots of last minute defensive stops.  Can play the ball with both feet and possesses great recovery speed.

23 Kyle Hickman  Freshman midfielder- Continues to improve his game everyday.  Kyle possesses a great soccer sense and will get better as he continues to play.  Also an accomplished tennis player.

25 Kent Milsap  Freshman midfielder/forward- The complete package.  Possesses great ball handling skills, speed, and physicality.  The one attribute that separates him from lots of Mississippi soccer players is his throw-in.  Can easily throw the ball approximately 40 yards.  Kent will be a force on the JV and varsity squads.  Kent has created scoring opportunities and will eventually be placed on the stat sheet as a multiple goal scorer.  Has perhaps the brightest future of all freshmen.

30 Zack Savell  Freshman midfielder/defender- Zack is a two-year member of the Bulldog soccer team.  Possesses great speed and toughness.  Model team player who will play anywhere and exemplify a great attitude.

19 Jared Bailey  8th grade defender- Natural left footed player.  Has natural ability.  Skills will improve as he continues to play.  Always plays hard and can make a great defensive play at any time.  Brother of Justin Bailey.

24 Tyler Weaver  8th grade midfielder- Will primarily be used at stopper with the JV team.  Loves to play the game and can be used as a defender when needed.  Brother of Ryan Weaver.

Tommy Avant  8th grade midfielder- The team took a big blow when Tommy sustained a season ending leg injury.  Was expected to contribute greatly to not only the JV team, but the varsity team as well.  Very promising player with great skills and speed.  An accomplished player, Tommy plays select ball with the Central Jackson Soccer Organization.  Will definitely be a force in 08-09.
