          Caste Laws & Codes

Gorean Green Caste Rules and Code
The Backbone to the GGC:
1. Hierarchy: The GGC is within each city, the Green Caste of each city elects their own chairs and maintains their own personal structure, under the Caste Guidelines. Each City can use the chair or a voted healer, to represent them to the GGC Board, one per city. ((with possibly, an Alt, as well) The officers of the Gorean Green Caste, will include the First Chair, Second Chair, Education and Research Chair, Scribe and Judge, as well as a Representative per city or group, (i.e. Port Kar or Panther girls) on the Caste Council. If a city representative cannot make it to a meeting, an Alternate may be appointed for it. If there are 10 or more Physicians in a city's GGC, a permanent Alternate will be voted in. This way every City is represented and has input into the GGC. A City will never be blindsided by what is occurring in the GGC. All the physicians of a city, may be active in the GGC if they choose to do or may be independent or GC. We embrace our fellow Brother and Sister Physicians and slave healers, regardless of affiliation. The first physician accepted from a city, will become the Acting First Physician of the Gorean Green Caste, for that city. When a total of five are fully accepted into the City Caste, elections for First and Second Physician of that city are held. When the total reaches ten, the scribe, judge, and educational chairs are appointed till new elections are held, which are held each eighteen or 36 hands depending on what is decided by the Caste, unless someone volunteers to fill one of the positions earlier. In order to identify ourselves and for faster location of members, it is strongly encouraged that all members have Gorean Green Caste, and GGC in their scrolls so we may be quickly located in time of need.

2. Function: The City keeps primary control over the castes, where it should be. If the City comes to the GGC for advice, we try and work with them to offer advice and assistance. At no time does the GGC make any decisions that pertain to the City beyond being a representative speaking for the Caste, on the city council. Also If a First Physician is Joined to another Physician, he may not appoint his Free Companion to any post of authority, higher than a committee chair. However, she may be voted into a position by her peers.

3. Joining: Any Free Persons of Honor, are invited to apply to the GGC, regardless of previous Caste.  Traveling Physicians without a city are welcome as well. Slave Healers may apply with a scroll of permission from their owners. The membership in the Gorean Green Caste, is transferable from city to city, should the physician relocate, and as soon as the First Physician for the new city is contacted, by scroll, the physician is a member of the Caste of Physicians or the Gorean Green Caste in the new city.

4. Training: GGC can mentor new healers, provide information for their use to become more like the book, help place those wishing a City residence, as well as placement suitable for both them and potential cities. We are of many schools of thought, in the Gorean Green Caste. Whether a Physician wishes to work with simple herbal remedies, in a rural area, or use sophisticated equipment within which is allowed by the Priest Kings, if they reside in a large city, it will be the physician's choice to do so. All Physician applicants, will undergo at least, a two week training period. They may put on their life scrolls that they are in training, pending certification into the Gorean Green Caste. There should be at least 5 significant logs, preferably including a birthing, a bone setting and an internal surgery. The logs will be sent to your mentor, the Educational chair and the head of the Gorean Green Caste for review. There will be no changes in the application process without due notice to all members of the Caste.

5. Complaints: Problems with healers will be directed to their City Caste first. NO nonmedical or ethical problems which could include things like overcharging a patient, will be handled through the Caste on ANY level. NO ONE is above the rules of the castes, PERIOD. All are subject to a Hearing if there is any question of unethical practices. The facts will be reviewed by the City or Castewide Caste Head or Judge. If such a problem arises, the members of the Member Review Board will be drawn from the Caste Member pool, and headed by the Caste Judge. If they are not properly addressed, to the person's satisfaction, then they can appeal, through the, city, GGC, and the Gorean Council. If an issue, cannot be handled by local caste, usually due to conflict of interests, or involvement, then a visiting Caste Chair or Judge from another city should be called in to hear a dispute, if the First Physician is involved, the city courts should address the situation. Should the party wish to appeal it, then it will be handled by the Castewide Gorean Green Caste Judge then, Council, and ALL hearings will be handled in an OPEN manner? Also the ruling with the Gorean Green Caste Council being the final appeal, unless a person wishes to make one appeal, to a Gor-Wide governing body such as the GHC or Gorean Council which is in the development phase. However multiple appeals beyond the first one, will be ignored

6. Slave Healers: As slaves are property, the choice of what a slave may and may not do rests primarily with their owners. If the slave is working under another Free Person who is a physician, then the physician that the slave is working with, has the say as to what the slave may or may not do. Any slave healer, may touch steel weapons, but ONLY long enough to withdraw the item from the patient as commanded by the Physician directing him, or if he in is alone, and throw it as far away from him as possible, in a non-threatening direction away from any one. The duties of a slave healer are much like those of an Earthen EMT to a Nurse Partitioner or Physician's Assistant. The duties can range from simple bandaging, to dealing with deep wounds and complicated birthing, if the slave healer is properly trained.for it. When seeing to the needs of a Free Person, the slave healer, must announce that he is such, and ask if he is permitted to treat the Free Person. If the slave is permitted to do so, the slave healer must still try to reach a trained Physician, if available, to see to the patient, while he is tending to the Free Person, unless the Free Person says otherwise.

THE PHYSICIAN'S CODE
Written by Stefan Tar Hawk

A physician holds life sacred.
We do not take willingly.
We strive to give the utmost care and concern for our patient.
We listen to our patient and strive to administer to THEIR needs NOT to ours.
If we find we cannot do anything to help them, then we give them the right to die with dignity.
We do not take a life but give the patient relief from the pain that they are having.
The Physician, will keep all matter confidentially concerning their patient.
ALL are giving our attention, whether Free or slave. We are treating the person not the social classification.
We treat patients based on medical need, not whether they are Free or slave.
We cannot and will not be biased because of Homestone, tribe, pack, or other affiliations.
