Devotions For Girls
Story: Sep. 25 Part-Time Friend by: Barbara J. Westberg.

After school on Monday, Lynn bounced up the bus steps looking for Stacy, her friend from church. She was thrilled Stacy was transferring to her school. Of course, Stacy was a grade ahead of her, but she'd still se her at lunch and they would ride the same bus. "When I have a Christian friend at school, I'll witness like I should," Lynn promised herself. Stacy hadn't been on the bus that morning because her mother had taken her to school to enroll. Somehow Lynn had missed her at lunch, too, so now she was eager to hear about Stacy's day. But Stacy wasn't on the bus yet. Soon stacy and a couple of other girls boarded the bus. They were giggling and having a great time. "Stacy, I've saved you a seat by me," said Lynn as she scooted over. "Oh thanks, Lynn, but I'm with Beth and Anne. Beth's my cousin." All the way home Lynn heard the happy chatter of the girls behind her. Tears welled up in her eyes. At her stop, she jumped off the bus and ran home. Once inside the house, she started to cry. "What's the matter?" Mother held her arms wide open. Lynn hid her face on Mom's shoulder. "S-S-Stacy already has fr-friends at
s-s-school. She's just my friend at ch-church." "That's too bad," sympathized Mom when she'd heard all about it. She sighed softly. "But isn't that the way you've been treating your
BEST FRIEND?" Lynn shook her head. "I'd never ignore her."
"Not her, Lynn-him," Mother corrected. "I mean Jesus." Lynn had talked with her mother about her fear of witnessing. "Oh!" Lynn gasped. "I never thought of it like that! You're right-I guess I only wanted him for a part-time friend. I ignored him when I was with kids who didn't know him."
