STONE * COVER TO COVER 40 years of rolling stone 1967-2007
notes:
the only drawing known
that has 'survived' don van vliet's burning of his work in spring 1969
actually part of
a letter to the editor by
FRANK
FACTOR from
sunnyvale,
california:
only last week while visiting beautiful downtown lancaster, i discovered in a lonely garage sale the enclosed work for only seven cents. obviously, the previous owner was not aware of the captain's great prominence, else it would have gone for a much loftier sum - like a dime.
but i shall pass my good fortune along to you by selling it to you for the price of the eight cents postage due on this letter, since i spent my wad obtaining this masterpiece and have gone the limits of my expense account.
don van vliet, late 60's

side note:
captain beefheart
and the magic band were
só fond of
alien
pilgrims from the 25th century
they tried
to be some of those themselves
on
the inner of the 1968 'strictly personal'
gatefold!
