the only drawing known that has 'survived' don van vliet's burning of his work in spring 1969
actually part of a letter to the editor by FRANK FACTOR from sunnyvale, california:
only last week while visiting beautiful downtown lancaster, i discovered in a lonely garage sale the enclosed work for only seven cents. obviously, the previous owner was not aware of the captain's great prominence, else it would have gone for a much loftier sum - like a dime.
but i shall pass my good fortune along to you by selling it to you for the price of the eight cents postage due on this letter, since i spent my wad obtaining this masterpiece and have gone the limits of my expense account.
