The Channel Swim

The channel swim involves swimming from Dover to Calais which in itself is 21 miles. Although during the swim the current will be against us constantly therefore adding an extra 7-8 miles to the swim making a grand total of 28-29 miles. Between us this means that we each shall swim roughly 5-6 miles. On average it has took teams in the past roughly 11-13hrs to cross the channel and we are looking to swim a sub 12hr channel crossing.

Assorted facts about the Channel and the swim:

  • Number of relay crossings as of 2003: 380
  • Number of 4-person crossings as of 2003: 7
  • Number of fatalities during crossing attempts: 4
