Industrial capacity is growing:

The sector could replace oil in the coming years. Caring for the environment is a foundation for success.

By geographical location, adaptation of trees to the environment, availability of land for reforestation, installed industrial capacity and experience in foreign trade, Ecuador is considered a potential growth forest that produces multiple benefits for citizens, environment and state.

Forests allow obtaining goods timber (wood for construction, furniture, floors, doors, processing of paper, cardboard or wood, among others) and non-timber goods (medicinal and perfumery oils, fruits and seeds, fiber for textiles, latex for tires, resins, etc.).

According to the Asociación Ecuatoriana de Industriales de la Madera, about 200 thousand people are linked to the sector in the country, taking into account the entire production chain that includes the industry: forestry, timber, furniture and, primarily, the artisanal sector is concentrated in rural areas and small towns of the country.

The employment generated in the Economically Active Population (PEA) is not the only advantage. The industry also points to the long-term substitute for oil in Ecuador. "We are optimistic because we have a renewable natural resource. As soon as the harvest ends, start planting new trees. Therefore, we are sure that the timber industry will take command when the domestic crude oil production is in decline," said Bernardo Perez, president of the Ecuadorian Federation of Exporters (Fedexpor).
