I recently posted this list on Amamzon of my favorite CD's for young children. If you're not familiar with these, check them out!

My favorite CD's for young children

A Listmania! list by Abby Connors

The list author says: "There are gazillions of CD's for young children out there. Some are good, some are so-so and too many are very poor quality, with cheesy vocals, boring instrumentation and the same old songs everyone knows already. Here are some CD's I've discovered that are fun and original. The children I teach (ages toddler through kindergarten) absolutely love them!"

1. A Tisket, A Tasket, A Child's Rhythm Basket by Brent Lewis

The list author says:

"This CD (available in MP3 downloads on Amazon) is truly one of a kind. Brent Lewis is an amazing percussionist and this is his only CD created especially for children. The musicianship and energy are excellent. Children love to dance and play instruments along with this very rhythmic music. You'll find it addictive too!"

$8.99

2. Everything Grows by Raffi

The list author says:

""Everything Grows" is classic Raffi. It's been around awhile but never seems dated. Children love these songs and ask for them all the time."

3. Rise and Shine by Raffi

The list author says:

"Another beautiful album by Raffi. So many great songs. "Something in My Shoe" is silly and cute and fun to act out. Kids also love "The Numbers Rumba," which is easy to follow along with even for toddlers."

4. Salsa for Kittens & Puppies (Book & CD) by Various Artists

The list author says:

"This is one of the most enjoyable and original CD's for children ever, and a great introduction to Spanish. The salsa rhythms and instruments are wonderful. My students' favorite songs are "Meow Hou Hou" (where they pretend to be cats and dogs) and "Bailar Rapido," which gets faster and faster as it goes along. This CD comes with a charming story also."

5. Sing it! Say it! Stamp it! Sway it! Vol.2 by Peter & Ellen Allard

The list author says:

"All of the Allards' CD's are top quality in terms of fun and musicianship, but I think this is my favorite. I use it in my classes all the time, especially "Bodies 1-2-3,"(a movement song), "Little Arabella Miller," and "Hello, My Name is Joe.""

6. Drum Like An Animal by Tom Foote

The list author says:

"Wow! This CD is absolutely amazing. Its African-inspired rhythms will stick in your head for a long time. Children love dancing and playing along on drums or other instruments (even pots and pans) to "Drum Like an Animal," "Obwisana," and all the wonderful songs on this unusual and super-fun CD."

7. Time for Music II by Frank Leto

The list author says:

"Frank Leto is unique - a wonderful children's musician who also has a background in early childhood education. His songs use many Spanish rhythms and instruments, although the words are in English. My students' favorites are "Come On Everybody" and "Ladybug.""
