BIRD RECIPES

Basic Muffin Mix

1 box Jiffy corn muffin mix
1 egg, with clean crushed egg shell
1/2 cup of apple juice
1 apple (peeled, cored, & chopped)
1/2 cup quick oats
1/2 cup chopped walnuts, or almonds
2 tbs. peanut butter, any kind
1/2 cup of your birds favorite pellet chopped.

Mix all ingredients together and spread in a 9" X 13" lightly greased pan. Bake at 350 for 25-35 minutes. Check with toothpick. Cool completely, cut into 2" squares. Freeze daily portions in ziploc baggies.


 Rice-Fruit Balls (this what the Juniors made at one of our meetings)

 3 cups cooked rice
 1 lb. raisins
 3 lb. dried fruits
 2 cups chopped mixed nuts (no salt)
Course chop ingredients in blender or food processor. Roll into 1 inch balls. Cover and refrigerate.

Birdie Corn Bread Squares

1 Cup plain yellow corn meal
1 teaspoon backing powder
1 egg
1/2 cup apple sauce
1/2 cup apple juice (pasteurized)
1/3 cup thawed frozen peas
1/3 cup grated carrot
1/3 cup cooked white or brown rice
1/3 cup pellets or seeds

Preheat oven to 350 degrees, mix above ingredients together. Put in a glass 8x8 pan. Bake for 35 minutes. Allow corn bread to cool and cut into 1 inch squares. Freeze in individual servings.

 
High Protein Egg Food
 
2 c. bread crumbs
1/2 c. soya flour
1 c. Gerber high protein baby cereal
1/2 c. corn meal
1/4 c. wheat germ
Avian vitamins
Mix ingredients and keep in dry place. Add three heaping teaspoons to one hard boiled egg. Keep this mixture refrigerated.
