Cheer History

Cheerleading is becoming a widely known sport, that's right a SPORT. This should not be an argument but some people still believe that cheerleading is nothing but a hobby.
Cheerleading is no longer a bunch of girls jumping up and down yelling. It's now a squad of males and females with skills in gymnastics, tumbling and other acrobatics. We still chant and show school spirit. But now we also compete in competitions and do a lot more than cheer at games. Cheerleaders also do stunts. For all of the football, hockey, and basketball players (or others) that think cheerleading is not a sport or too easy to be a sport, I wish you would think again. No one seems to realize that it takes endurance to cheer fo an entire game EVEN when the team is losing! I wish that these people would realize that stamina is needed to cheer a team to a victory and keep a smile on your face. Cheerleaders have to set a good example and have lots and lot of school spirit.
Believe it or not cheerleading used to be dominated by men. Then it became a primarily female sport. Now more boys are becoming cheerleaders so if you are a boy and want to become a cheerleader then go for it.

Fundraisers

There comes a time when all cheerleaders will need to raise money. There's always the basic standing on the corner asking for money. But let's try to think of some more creative ways to raise money
My ratings:
* Takes to much time and effort
** Depending on your neighborhood this might work
*** Good idea I should try it
**** If you really want a good fundraising idea try his one

The Mini Cheerleading camp- Organize a cheerleading camp for elementary students. Put up flyers at your local elementary schools and try to have several adults volunteer. Each person from you squad can have a specific job to do. A group of 4-5 cheerleaders can teach the girls a couple chants. Another group of 4-5(cheerleaders) can teach the girls a Mini-dance. (Nothing too hard...) Another group can teach the girls how to stretch properly. And the last group can teach the girls how to do jumps. ( Please be patient because they are younger than you)

My rating: **** It might take some time to organize but it's worth it because you are helping future cheerleaders. Plus it's good to help people that look up to you. This also raises alot of money if you budget correctly. This camp can be held on a saturday for 2-3 hours. Charge each girl 5-10 dollars (or you can decide a price)

Selling candy- Everyone wants candy. Your sponsor can order what ever king of candy you think the people in your neighborhood would want.
My rating: ** It's true everyone wants candy but if you don't get the right kind ex.(too many sweets not enough chocolate) you might sell out of the stuff people like and you'll be left with the stuff no one wants.

Host a dance
This is a good fundraiser but it takes a while to organize.
My rating:**
If you have an adult in charge, and you have time to plan, this might actually make a good profit

If you have any fundraising ideas please send them in.
