Well, though there's been virtually no updates to the Badlands in months, I have been very active in 40K/orks. Early this year (08) I participated in the local area's Waaaghmbat patrol tournament and I've been chugging along on two (2500 point ork army lists). One is a more traditional footslogging goff horde list (which is pretty far along, just need to buy and paint 40 stormboyz and flesh out a couple of other units for it to be complete), while the second is a Big Mek led force, consisting of lots of Dreds, Kans (recently bought ork dred mob deal), and some shooty goodness (very little has been painted on this army list). On the back-burner is a Feral themed list that will be led by a warphead and will include a garantuan squiggoth (got a good deal on ebay).
Other than that, I've been working on lots of terrain, some of my own and some for one of the local shops.
You may notice that some old parts of the site are gone (ultimate ork gallery and skarboyz), but plans are in the works to add some new pages this summer.
When I saw the green I knew I had to have one (two, to be more precise). One will be basically painted stock (I think) and the other will be converted into either a slaver, weird boy, or the like. I was a little surprised by the bitz on this mini, especially the lower jaw being its own piece. Its a bit annoying, but not a major deal. My favorite parts are the hooded head, outreached hand, and the details on the back.
The hobby vacation has come and passed. Unfortunately lots of what I worked on is not far enough long to photograph and display on the site. Outside of the the Painboss, Big Mek, and Grots I posted, I worked on a section of Mektown and some conversion work for some regular meks with custom force-fields (for two burna boy squads) and some standard slugga boyz. They will be photographed and shown once they're all painted up (probably in a couple of weeks).
I had intended to get some more work down on the ork cavalry, but I was only able to make a little more progress in this regard. The Mektown stuff has really been taking up the bulk of my time, stay tuned on that front . . .
Too Many Ideas, and Never Enough Time
Over the past year or so I've tried my best to be very productive in painting and converting miniatures and to work on terrain for Mektown and The Spire projects. Looking back over what I've done over the past year, it's really not that impressive. I know I've purchased more than I've painted and the boxes and boxes of bitz continue to pile up (not that this phenomenon is new, I've always accumulated far more than I could ever complete).
What's a guy to do? Well, in the next few months I'm going to take a hobby vacation. To clarify, I'm not taking a break from the hobby; I'm taking a dedicated vacation from work to knock out a few projects I've been meaning to complete. At least that's the plan.
This "hobby vacation" is tentatively scheduled for Orkober, when the weather in Texas is relatively nice (it shouldn't be in upper 90s or higher) and it should work with my job requirements.
So in the next month and half or so I need to come up with a game plan of what exactly all those projects will be. Anyone have any suggestions? If so, please post in the guest book area, shoot me an e-mail, or PM on any of the various forums I frequent on a regular basis (the-Waaagh, Dakka dakka, Work in Progress, etc.)
I dont play Warhammer fantasy, but I must say that Im quite psyched for the new Warhammer edition and the subsequent minis that will coming soon after. No, I dont plan on starting this game, its just more mini conversion fodder for my Gorkamorka/Warhammer 40K orks. You see, one of the first armies that will be getting the star treatment on the Warhammer side for this edition is the Orcs and Goblins. Theres a new basic boxed set with Dwarves and Night Goblins (Ill likely be picking one up for Grot conversions), but even more exciting is the New Orc plastic warboss sprue (see pictures below).

And check out the sprues for him and the night goblin fanatics (there's a plastic squig!!!). Looks like they'll be some new Nob conversions in my future.
