ABLUTION (WUDU)

Allah has decreed 4 steps for ablution, but the Muslims of today have their own rules. They followed the rules of their Scholars instead of the rules of Allah. The word Muslim means the One Who Is Of Peace . A Peacemaker (Muslim) who submits to Allah should include doing His Ablution (Wudu) not the ablution (Wudu) of the scholars. Allah's ablution is very simple and easy as you can see in the verse that explains it.  Qur’aan 5:6 The purification of the ablution is the spiritual purification not the physical part of the washing process. If ablution was meant to clean the person physically, Allah would have ordered us to take a bath before every one of the five prayers. Ordering the dry ablution (Tayammum) (using the dust for the purification), proves that Allah did not mean the ablution for the purpose of physical cleaning as some claims. The physical cleaning part of the ablution is a very secondary gain that should not be considered the main goal of the washing.

Here is the ABLUTION as commanded by Allah HIMSELF . Those who consider improving on Allah's commandments should remember that they will stand defending their practice and blame it on someone else on a day where there is no trade, no nepotism and no intercession.

Qur’aan 5:6
O you who believe, when you observe the Salaat, you shall: (1) wash your faces, (2) wash your arms to the elbows, (3) wipe your heads, and (4) wash your feet to the ankles. If you were unclean due to sexual orgasm, you shall bathe. If you are ill, or traveling, or had any digestive excretion (urinary, fecal, or gas), or had (sexual) contact with the women, and you cannot find water, you shall observe the dry ablution (Tayammum) by touching clean dry soil, then rubbing your faces and hands. Allah does not wish to make the religion difficult for you; He wishes to cleanse you and to perfect His blessing upon you, that you may be appreciative.

What Nullifies Ablution

Qur’aan 4:43
O you who believe, do not observe the Salaat  while
intoxicated, so that you know what you are saying. Nor after sexual
orgasm without bathing, unless you are on the road, traveling.   if you
are ill or traveling, or you had urinary or fecal-related excretion
(such as gas), or contacted the women (sexually), and water is not available, you shall observe Tayammum (dry ablution) by touching clean dry
soil, then wiping your faces and hands. Allah is Pardoner,
Forgiver.

Should we wash the feet or wipe the feet ?

We receive this question often specially since many sects in Islaam ignored the command in the Qur’aan to WASH the feet and recommend to wipe the feet since the order about the feet comes after the wiping of the head.

Forget about any translation for now and let us see the Arabic Qur’aan. In the Arabic Qur’aan, the verse grammatically structured to mean the feet should be washed not wiped. Although the feet are mentioned in the sentence after the wiping of the head, it belongs to the washing of the face, GRAMATICALLY. It is sad that even some of those who know Arabic fail to recognize this grammatical structure and make the wrong decision to wipe the feet, instead of washing the feet.

Here is the verse in Arabic

5:6. Ya ayyuha allatheena amanoo itha qumtum ila alssalati faighsiloo wujoohakum waaydiyakum ila almarafiqi waimsahoo biruoosikum waarjulakum ila alkaAAbayni

****faighsiloo wujoohakum = wash your faces,(notice the end of the word ..akum)

****waimsahoo biruoosikum = wipe your head,(notice the end of the word ..ikum)

****waarjulakum = and your feet ,(notice the end of the word ..akum)

Because the word waarjulakum is written with .....lakum, it follows the washing of the face.....lakum, grammatically.

For the feet to follow the wiping of the head it should have been writttten as waarjulikum , that is .....likum and NOT ....lakum as it is in the verse.

Many of the famous translations translated this verse , Qur’aan 5:6 correctly as wash the feet. For example,

YUSUF ALI: O ye who believe! when ye prepare for prayer, wash your faces, and your hands (and arms) to the elbows; Rub your heads (with water); and (wash) your feet to the ankles.

PICKTHAL: O ye who believe! When ye rise up for prayer, wash you faces, and your hands up to the elbows, and lightly rub your heads and (wash) your feet up to the ankles.

KHALIFA: O you who believe, when you observe the Contact Prayers (Salat), you shall: (1) wash your faces, (2) wash your arms to the elbows, (3) wipe your heads, and (4) wash your feet to the ankles.

NUHSIN KHAN O you who believe! When you intend to offer As-Salât (the prayer), wash your faces and your hands (forearms) up to the elbows, rub (by passing wet hands over) your heads, and (wash) your feet up to ankles.
