Howdy, Lorraine... Scott Palangi here with a quick note to say “thanks” for such an outstanding job on my book, Be, Do, and Have: The Trilogy of Human Achievement.
The reason it’s taken me so long to give you some feedback is because it took me a while to read through that 83,447 word document that you “MASTERFULLY” edited!
Your effort definitely gets an “Atta girl” from Winding Road Publishing!
And…I must say Lorraine, having dealt with the typical three-ring circuses that are germane to hiring a freelance editor (namely: easy access to the person in “charge,” clarity and cohesiveness of the writing itself – which you really shined through on, and the overall flow that “glues” one topic to the next)… well, YOU’RE THE TOPS!
Listen: Perhaps the most frustrating thing about hiring an editor is trusting – not only with regard to competency – but their overall ability to make the “material” create mental image pictures of the content. I particularly like the way you were able to “read” the parts of my writing where I was trying to “clear my throat” to convey an idea. Not only did you successfully cause the finished project to “speak”… but I’ve also been told by my readers that they can now “hear” me in the pages. And that, Lorraine, is impressive. Awesome!
Thankfully (now) the book reads in a way that “grips” readers and makes them stay. In addition to that, I saw the parts where you made the “cerebral element” of the manuscript come across as if it were two people talking in a coffee shop. (Not sure I was there... as it sounds better than I can speak! But it still sounds like “me.”)
In fact, I know it sounds like I’m buttering you up, just so that you put my jobs ahead of the other clients you have… but I’ve actually been accused of having “studied” writing! (Of course, we’ll keep it a secret that you massaged a half-sensed, 298-paged, run-on-sentence project into a book that now sells for $15 bucks on Amazon, right?) Thanks!
In short, I’m more than satisfied with the manuscript, and… although I DO give you permission to use this letter in any way you wish -- for marketing purposes – I hope you do so conservatively so that you still have time for ME! On a more serious note, any publisher that doesn’t hire you “pronto” for editing needs to have his or her head examined.
In a very real sense, I’m glad that the first editor I hired for this project “disappeared” (with my deposit, to boot); I’m glad the second one got side-tracked without completing the project (with another deposit). I’m also glad that on my third (and final attempt) at hiring an editor for this project, I found you. In that sense, I am lucky. You delivered exactly what was promised and then some! The additions you made to my content enhanced both the clarity and impact of my messages… and all with a consistent flow, sounding as if you were actually able to get into my head and speak my words for me. To the extent that I can express here: please remain available to Winding Road Publishing! Reserve a priority spot for us.

I am currently enrolled in a Master's level counseling program in Canada. There is massive work load of research paper. I was born and raised in Taiwan. I am fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese. English is not my first language; therefore, my paper is best to be proofread. However, being a procrastinator and having to meet multiple paper deadlines, I often cannot find enough time for my friends to proofread it for me. This is when Lorraine comes in to help. She is very quick and always sends me the edited paper back on time. There is never a delay. I can count on her work. Even though we have never met, she could almost always understand what I was trying to say in the paper. This is quite awesome since we have only been communicating via email. To fellow writers:
I was extremely pleased with the experience of having worked with Lorraine Lamont of Taskmasters, etc. After reading a sample of my work, quite a few editors bid on my project, which is related to dentistry. One of them in particular discouraged me by wanting a very high fee, saying my work needed a major overhaul, a substantive heavy edit. The hardest part was to fire the other 22 prospective editors in order to get started with Lorraine. I felt like Donald Trump. Lorraine’s enthusiasm to take on the job seemed genuine and her fee reasonable. She massaged my copy, not just correcting my grammar, but also making the content more coherent without changing my meaning. That was really important to me and I had my eye open for it. Not a problem!
Also, like anyone writing a manuscript with ideas and lingo specific to their profession, I was concerned if someone could effectively edit my book without formal dental or medical experience. That shows what I know… Lorraine amazed me with the way she tackled my topic. The ‘dentistry stuff’ didn’t phase her; neither did some technical bits in a chapter written by my accountant on tax planning. Part way through the project, I told her I was getting bored of the topic and might start writing fiction. Lorraine didn’t miss a beat there. She told me to get at it and she’d edit that, too! Maybe she will prove to be instrumental in the start of a new career for me. I’ve got an idea about a dentist who is a hit man on the side. Lorraine’s sense of humour would go for that!
My dentistry manuscript was based on seminars I gave for many years. Lorraine had the challenge of changing what was, in effect, a series of speeches into copy that could capture readers’ interest. That challenge is a big one since my readers – dentists - have the attention spans of a flea. If Lorraine’s treatment of my book doesn’t make them read it right through, I will be amazed.
Lorraine addressed any questions I had promptly, professionally, and amiably. She was wonderful as far as keeping in touch throughout this project. Bottom line: I would trust her judgment again as far as editing any other manuscripts I write in the future. This went so well, I think I will do just that.
