Editorial and writing support services:
Substantive (or developmental) editing:
We reorganize and rewrite your document as needed, developing content that is logical, accurate, complete, and appropriate for the intended audience. A reader-friendly flow will appeal to your target audience. I am adept at transforming technical content into enticing reading. Testimonials, samples, and references available.
Copyediting:
We check for errors of spelling, grammar, punctuation, and usage; ensure consistency of style and tone throughout the document; clear up confusing and awkward writing; and query for problems we cannot resolve. Copyediting is best done before the document is laid out and should be followed by proofreading.
Light copyediting:
We take care of all the tasks of regular copyediting except for rephrasing of unclear or awkward sentences. We do not change text except to resolve grammatical errors.
Proofreading:
We review an already-edited document one final time, checking for any remaining errors and inconsistencies. Proofreading is best done after the document is laid out, when layout errors can also be checked.
Comparison proofreading:
We compare a new version of a document against its original. This work is often best done with two proofreaders: one reading the original aloud and the other making corrections to the new version.
Critiquing:

Non-fiction and fiction editing projects of book length have included clients from the continental U.S. and Canada. I've been published in several publications and have edited or contributed content for several non-fiction books, Ebooks, manuals, and training guides.
Additionally, I am a prolific writer and editor of marketing tools that motivate buyers and move product!
I have written copy for several area publications, ghostwritten Ebooks, penned an advice column, and written my own non-fiction, self-help book proposal (complete with marketing campaign plan), represented on the West Coast. In addition to serving freelance clients and Elance customers, I am currently editing ESL copy in an ongoing, freelance capacity for thelinguist.com - a web site supporting those who seek to improve their written English.
Other pieces that I have proofread and/or edited include: Ebooks, geological lab reports, adoption case studies, a column for a men's psychology magazine, novels - fiction and non-fiction, U.S. Census results, newsletters, brochures, medical and legal files, dissertations and masters theses, correspondence, plus reports and papers of all kinds.
