 INTRODUCTION

Welcome to this site. A site meant to give some brief history of our village of Tarxien in Malta, a small Island in the heart of the Mediteranean Sea, and the history of our Parish Church dedicated to the Annunciation of Our Lord.

In Tarxien there are some 2,500 homes with nearly 10,000 people living in this village. The feast of the Annunciation is held on the last Sunday of May each year or the Sunday before or aftar. It depends when the feasts of Pentecoste and that of Corpus Christi comes.

The feast of the Annunciation is celebrated with Religious celebrations in the church with a Novena, nine days of preparation, the Translation of the Relic of Our Lady of the Annunciation (A piece of cloth from a dress of the Holy Mary), from the Chapel of St. Bartholomew to the Parish Church and on Sunday with a Concelebrated High Mass in the morning and the Procession around the Streets of Tarxien with the Statue of the Annunciation, sculptured in wood by the artist Xandru (Alexander) Farrugia in 1829AD and decorated in gold leaves with precious paints.

There will be band marches during the week around Tarxien and pirotechnic ground and air fireworks during this period.

In mid July we celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Doctrine. It is celebrated with a "Tridu" (Three days of preparation of cerimonies in the Church) and on Sunday with a High Mass in the morning and the Procession with the statue in the evening. Afterwords there will be a band march, followed by pirotechnic ground and air fireworks.

We also celebrate the feast of Our Lady of the Rosary with a "Tridu" (Three days Religious celebrations in the Church) and a High Mass, the procession in the evening with the statue of Our Lady of the Rosary (The oldest statue, circa 1699AD). This feast is celebrated on the first Sunday of October.

We also celebrate with high devotion, the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows a week before Good Friday with a Special Mass and a procession with the statue of Our Lady of Sorrows.

Two other Processions are organised in Tarxien, generaly in June, the procession of Corpus Christi and the Procession of the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

There are other functions celebrated in this Parish Church. In Tarxien there are two other churches celebrating daily Masses, one is the Augustinian Church dedicated to St Nichbolas and the other one dedicated to the Risen Christ incorporating with this church is the Parish Cemetery.

I hope you find interesting points in this site. Enjoy your visit. Thanks for visiting.
