Sable was purchased from the petshop with Marlon and started my facination with these gorgeous creatures. When I bent down to look at the cavies in the cage I made the usual 'kissing' noise that we all tend to do to most thing baby-like and to my delight she answered back with a "purr". I did it again, and again she answered me back, by this time my little boy Lewis noticed that she seemed to be talking to me and was in awe of my ability to speak 'cavy' so it was a done job, we just had to have her! (i'd only gone in for one really!). Sable continues to talk to me in this fashion whenever I enter the shed and she is the most wonderful mother to Honey and Conker despite her young age (she was obviously pregnant when I got her at 10 weeks old!). Sable is a cream self and likes to be 'Head Girl' in the hutch, she sorts all the others out and puts them in their place.
Sadly lost Sable in April 2008 - but I do have her son and daughter here and they will stay as a reminder of the very special girl that started it all off.
April was the next sow to the caviary and is a non-self tricolour of chocolate and tan agouti type markings. April is not what I went out to buy(I only went to look - how naive am I?), but as soon as I saw her I fell in love with the huge brown eyes and 'chocolate box' appearence. April has now established her territory as being the cardboard tube in the run and woe betide any cavy that enters without permission!
Agnes is a black tan sow from the same stud as the scottish boys - Bellevue in Renfrewshire! Agnes is Tartuffe's long awaited sow for the start of the Black Tan lines and is named in the memory of Agnes Curran, my husband's wonderful Grandmother who sadly died in October 2005. Agnes was a well-known and respected local figure who worked tirelessly in the nursing, prison and mental health services all her life and was the first female governess of a male prison in Europe.
Morag is another Bellvue black tan sow that has such dark markings that she resembles a self black.
May 2006 - Currently in with The Crofter (Bomber Harris) for some wee bairns!
Oh what a heartbreaker! this crested marten sable sow comes from Crystal Cavies and is the partner for Rhett. The pair have already had a couple of litters and produced some really nice sables and marten sables, so it is hoped that there will be more running around Tartuffe before long. Scarlet is likely to be shown before Rhett as she is the better colour of the pair in the marten sable requirements. Both are of a breed that is yet un-standardised, so it is hoped that Tartuffe can produce some stock that will be worthy of putting to the RVCC for consideration.
March 2006 - Scarlet took 'Best RV' at the Broadlands Show on her first outing! what a result and the first rosette for the cavy shed, I am so proud of this little 'pocket rocket'!
May 2006 - Scarlet continues to win every class she is entered for, so far she has won 5 classes (5 shows) and 2 Best RV awards, Ii am very proud of her as she is just so 'showy' and looks the business every time!
