This website is dedicated to my Mother-In-Law, Suzette Barbara Jane Reynolds; a beautiful person both inside and out, and an inspiration to anyone who takes pride in showing for pleasure pure and simple.
Tartuffe Caviary is home to a small stud of several breeds of Rare Variety cavies, currently the Tan in Black, Chocolate and Lilac and the Fox in Black. Both breeds have a Full standard as adopted by the national Cavy Club and British Cavy Council in 2008, both of which Nicky is a member and the stud name is registered with. All lines are bred to show and Nicky is careful to only breed on those it is felt to be 'true' and faithful to the breed. Other cavies at home include a variety of pet companions and the ones that started the 'idea' off in the first place. Nicky is currently working on a project to develop the 'Sable' and 'Marten Sable', 'Chinchilla'and the 'Otter' breeds into her lines in since 2006. As a balance for the RV breeds Nicky keeps a few selfs in Black and Chocolate to use in the Tan lines. Nicky has just begun to embark upon a project in Agoutis in silver, Lemon, cream and cinnamon with the help and guidance of Simon Neesam an experienced breeder and judge of these majestic breed. Nicky is also dabbling with Merino's and Lunkyara's to further her experience of longhair breeds.
Nicky is currently studying with the Southern Cavy Club in their Judging Accreditation Scheme and is the cavy secretary for the Central Suffolk Rabbit and Cavy Fanciers; a member of the National Cavy Club,Southern Cavy Club, the Rare Varieties Cavy Club and several smaller local societies, that show and promote the cavy fancy. Please feel free to contact Nicky if you have any queries or questions, she is always happy to talk cavy!
The prefix of 'Tartuffe' belonged at one time to my Mother-In-Law Suzette Reynolds, which she used for many years in breeding and showing her top class Bullmastiffs.
Known to her friends (and she had hundreds!) as simply, Sue; my mother-in-law won championship classes and the hearts of the crowds and judges at some of this country's most prestidgeous dog shows including Crufts, with some of her treasured four-legged family, until her tragic and untimely death in a car accident on the way to a dog show in 1999.
My family has been involved with the breeding and producing of show animals (horses and dogs) for the past quarter of a century and when I became 'bitten' by the cavy bug earlier this summer it seemed a natural event to consider breeding and showing any cavy that I may have suitable under the title of 'Tartuffe' as it feels like home,
When I visit the green burial site where Sue's ashes are buried, or when I am on my own somewhere pondering stuff I talk to her, often alot;about all manner of things.....I tell her about her grandson (my son) Lewis, now six years old, and how well he is growing up.....I tell her about her dogs, and how (and what!) I hear they are all doing with their new owners, and who has won what in the dog world, and most recently I have told her of my newest venture with my cavies.
Now,Sue loved all creatures great and small, and could turn her hand sucessfully to raising all manner of things living. I can remember when I first met her that I was bemused and a little horrified to find she had kept a margerine pot full of large moth cacoons that she had previously as caterpillars; fed lovingly with leaves and greenery until they were ready to hatch, she took such care with them and told us all off when we offeredto help her have a clear out and unknowingly almost dispose of them! So I suppose what I am trying to say is that Sue believed in "What ever floats your boat" and that there was room in this world for fancy of all sorts of things, so I know she will watch with interest just what I get up to with these little guinea pigs that I have, after all, there is a great name to live up to!
Tartuffe sometimes has stock for sale, and if you are considering purchasing a cavy from Nicky, (or any other breeder for that matter!) then please read Nicky's terms and conditions of sale on the sales page, they don't all apply to every breeder but the ethos is basically the same for any responsible person out there in the fancy.
The great and good name of Tartuffe is carried on in the canine world by Angela Curran and Janice Stewart - my husband's wonderful Aunts whose dedication and knowledge is awe-inspiring!
