| Hugin Vikings 0 - 1 Tara Plumbing 09/09/06 First game of the season and expectations are high. After losing out on the league last year through goal difference the hunger is there even more to suceed. First up in the league/cup game was Hugin Vikings who last year we managed to beat but always conceded a couple of goals. We started the first half well settling in too our passing game and having the majority of possesion but failed to really create any clear cut chances. Hugin wasn't causing us any problems, however, the only time they look like they could score was when a mix up at the back nearly caught our new keeper Mark Grounds out. However after that mad point we managed to create some good chances. Newton had a glorious chance which wasn't dispatched and I had a right footed effort which was put wide. Maisey also had a couple off good runs into the the box but the final product wasn't for the ball to be in the net. Even with our missed chances though we still didnt't panic which sometimes we would do. We was patient and still played very good football at times with Steve Bean and Keith Maisey doing well in the middle of the park and Matty Huckstep and myself working well done the left. Eventually we managed to get our goal. Scott Hedges commanding as ever at the back won the ball and played a simple pass to me. I lofted a through ball for the pacy mike Lord to run on to who put in a glorious cross for Lee Grounds to head home powerfully at the back stick. Very good team goal. We continued to play well up to half time but failed to add to our tally of 1. Half-time and the gaffer was happy. Good ten yard passing, good talking and we was patient in our build up play. Second half and different story. We still had the majority of possesion but the tempo had dropped. We seemed to hit criuse control and didn't really go on to dominate the game and see it out comfortably. The gaffer did say to us before the game we are the best Saturday team in Thanet and this league is ours for the taking so to not see off Hugin must be seen as not good enough if we want to live up to our reputation. No particular player played bad it was just no drive in our play. Matty then rung in some changes. The impressive Huckstep being replaced by Ozzy and Ant making way for the returing Ross Howells. That meant Howells up top with league debutant Newton, Lord dropping to midfield with Maisey and Steve Bean right back. This work well with us playing better (still not great) and creating a few chances. Lord was cool and composed in the middle, Ozzy looked dangerous down the left and Howells did everyhthing but score. He hit the bar with a free kick, the post from a corner and had one cleared off the line back their full back. One more change followed with Dan Channing coming on for Lee Grounds. Overall we did the most important thing. We won the game. There are a few positives that we can take and maybe it will take a couple off games to get to our full potential again. We must now work as a team to achieve our aim off winning silverware. We can do it lads! Team Ratings Mark Grounds - Didnt have that much to do but when did look good. Only one mistake but kicking was excellant. 7.5 Ant Cook - Trying to get this lad to talk is mission impossible. Must start doing it with competition for places high. 7 Keiron Bean - Never looked troubled diffencivly. Won alot and made good tackles. Composure on ball will always be Keir's down point but on the whole he has improved drastically. 7.75 Scott Hedges - Reads the game superbly. Good interceptions and won his fair share in the air. One mistake in whole game other than that very good. Talking is excellant. 7.75 Aaron Smith - First half I thought I played well. Linked up well with Huckers on left and put in some crosses. Was involved in goal aswell. 2nd half was poor. didn't get as much off ball. 7.5 Lee Grounds - Grabbed fantastic goal and pace looked threatening. With him and Ant on right though you get more talk in a libary. Other than that was good. 7.5 Steve Bean - Very good game today. Didn't have luck with ref and the fouls against him but still battled away. Showed versatilty at right back and slooted in well. 7.75 Keith Maisey - Was excellant in first half running all over the shop and battling well. Was composured with ball as well. Second half dropped off the pace abit which summed up the team. 7.75 Matt Huckstep - Was blinding in first half. Showed feet all the time and worked well with myself. Battled well and was talking well with me. Tailed off in second period. 7.75 Michael Lord - One off few players to play well throughout the game. Showed well up top and composed the midfield. I prefer him in midfield as he seems to moan more upfront....maybe its just a striker thing! 8 Adam Newton - Will take time too settle in but when does will score for fun with this team. Worked well up top now must develop talking in game. Impressive debut though. 7.75 SUBS Ross Howells - Welcome return from Rossy and could have scored a hat-trick with some luck. Hopefully he will be on fire for us. 7.75 Ozzy - When got the ball he looked good beating players for fun. Wipped in some dangerous crosses. Must scream for ball though and play with a smile on his face. 7.5 Dan Channing - Replaced Lee and battled away well. Shame we are going to lose him for uni the selfish bastard! 7.5 |
Barnaby 3 - 4 Tara Plumbing 16/09/06
The second game of the season was at Warre Rec behind Ramsgate swimming pool against Barnaby. It wasn’t a bad day for a game of football no wind or rain just a slight warmth to the afternoon that could threaten to tire a fast paced game. Everyone looked eager to get out and play although some people did not look happy putting on the old Tara shirts on again that seemed smaller than before due to a colour clash. As with most teams this year we couldn’t under estimate the strength of the opposition that stood before us although another win was expected.
The starting eleven was similar to the week before the only change being Ant Cook left out for lack of talking in the previous week being replaced by Ozzy which resulted in Steve Bean moving to right back and myself going to centre mid so Ozzy could play on the left wing.
The game kicked off at two and it wasn’t long before Mike Lord was brought down and injured. Unfortunately Mike couldn’t carry on but on the bright side the bench was very strong that day so Ross Howells replaced him. Ross came on looking positive and was a threat to the Barnaby defence when he got the ball. Unlike the week before we didn’t seem to struggle to put the ball in the back of the net with good work from the two strikers we where three nil up with two goals from Adam Newton and one from Ross. When in possession of the ball and playing on the deck the Tara team looked in control but when the ball was lost the work rate to win the ball back was not up to scratch. Barnaby didn’t make it easy enough and before the half the score was three goals to one.
After a team talk about the work rate at half time everyone had to go out and put 100 % in. Even though we were the better side we couldn’t put the game to bed and Barnaby scored a second goal making the score three two. The tara attack kept plugging away put to no avail as once again we failed to be clinical enough in front of goal. Adam Newton was injured and had to be brought off. The line up changed slightly with Lee grounds taking Newtons position up front with Dan Channing coming on in the centre which meant myself going to the right and Aaron Brady coming on on the left side of midfield. Tara attack moved the ball around well and after some good play Aaron Brady managed to slot home a fourth goal which would prove to be an important one as Barbaby refused to lie down and scored a third. The final scored being four goals to three a win for Tara.
Although is wasn’t the best game to play in or to watch its another three points in the bag.

Tara Plumbing 9 - 1 Red Arrow 30/09/06
The fourth game of the season saw the undefeated Tara Plumbing competing against the Canterbury Leagues Red Arrow in a Kent Cup showdown. So far Tara have managed to secure their unbeaten run, however goals have been a problem of late, with all three wins being won by just the single goal. Goals however, were the last problem on the

The half time team talk was very brief, with all the players and Matt being more than satisfied with the team’s first half performance. More goals came in the second half with goals from Ross Howells, Keith Maisy, Adam Newton, Matt Huckstep and Aaron Brady. 9-1 the final score and a secured place into the next round. Hope to take this performance into Saturdays

AFC Aussie 1 - 4 Tara Plumbing
With tara missing players such as maisey, howells, m grounds along with long term injured Elliott channing and dan bridge, the tara squad was stretched, but again we could still name 3 on the bench, the squad strength in depth being the best ever
The game started with tara dominating possession and having a few half chances whilst aussie looked like being reduced to counter attacks, and a great hit from former tara man wretham produced a top class save from stand in keeper rob lord, tara then took control of the game with a couple of goals in a short space of time, the first coming after great work from the ever willing aaron brady who was outstanding on the day, crossed for adam newton to fire home, this was followed by a cross from tara which was only half cleared and fell to the right boot of steve martin who duly thumped in a right foot strike from the edge of the area into the top corner, previous games against aussie have been much the same and we should have taken control and used our heads slightly better, however a lapse in concentration from the normally reliable scott hedges allowed nick Baxter to square for wretham to slot past the exposed rob lord, this was then game on as a pumped up aussie then had the bit between their teeth and competed better in the 20 mins before the break than they ever have against us, from our point of view we should have tried to take the sting from the game and use our heads a bit better whilst frustrating them by keeping the ball, however this did not happen and aussie were winning more possession with a greater strength in the tackle and an apparent greater will to win,
Half time and nor the players nor management was happy with proceedings and a greater call for a higher level of commitment was asked for in order to re earn the right to play our football as we had lost a bit of the impetus which we worked hard to gain, this was answered almost immediately when the normally placid lee g put in a late tackle which summed up tara’s desire to stamp some authority on the game, the passing got better and the control of the game appeared to have been regained with aussie not having any joy early doors second half, we needed a goal whilst we were playing well and this duly arrived with antonio playing a through ball from which matt wood slotted past pedgo in the ausie net, once again the control of the game seemed in taras hands before matt wood was sent off for a second bookable offence after some handbags in the aussie box, this was a stupid and reckless dismissal which was easily avoidable and not a proud moment for myself having worked hard over the last year or so, to stop this type of crap creeping into my game, my apologies again lads!!
The control of the game remained in taras ands as afc aussie appeared to have given up, following this there was time left for kieron bean to continue his recent scoring streak by claiming another goal from a corner with a header which pedge had no chance with,
In summary yet another win without really looking convincing, having said that the history between the 2 sides makes this a more intense game and more of intense derby whereby we get involved in personal stuff and don’t concentrate on our jobs for the team, again can play a lot better which is a good sign, but the next three games are step up in opposition and our team play needs to be better,
