BLOCKBUSTER!!

BOBBY SMITH A STAR!!

Pending league approval, it appears as if Bobby Smith is now a member of the Minnesota North Stars. The star centerman was shipped to the Stars, along with RW Greg Johnston from the Montreal Canadiens. Heading to Les Habitants is Minnesota's first pick in the 1987 entry draft, along with young prospects Kelly Buchberger and Don Sweeney. Star's GM Derek Delorme explains the deal from the North Star perspective. "We needed a centreman of Bob's calibre, plain and simple..Stevie Y was being worked way too hard and we also feel like our second line needed more punch, and now it has it". Delorme was asked whether he was concerned about Smith's pending free agency. " Not in the least", Delorme barked. " We will not be outbid in retaining his services in the off season, guaranteed!". "we want to win a championship this year, and we think Smith and Johnston gets up closer. Edmonton is still the class of our conference, but we will compete with them, one way or the other". Delorme was then asked about his dealing with Hab's GM Donovan White yet again. "I think deep down, we would rather run the other team's roster, haha!" joked Delorme. It just so happens that we happen to have players to help each other at just the right moments". "Dono is easy to deal with and we are in separate conferences, so we don't need to worry about deals coming back to bite us the way we would if we dealt within our own conference's". "Unless of course, we somehow meet in the finals!".

New Season Begins Tonite!

CURTAIN GOES UP ON ON 1986/87 SEASON TONIGHT AT THE MET!

Star's GM Derek Delorme begins his first full season as a GM in the RFNHL, and is hopeful for better things in his second season! the Stars, who are still a little disappointed in their playoff showing last season in a close, hard fought 7 game loss to the Calgary Flames, added several players in the hopes of closing the gap between themselves and the powerhouse and defending champion Edmonton Oilers!

In a 3 way deal with the New York Islanders and Boston Bruins, the Stars added star RW Glenn Anderson(pictured upper left), and young LW Dave Andreychuk(pictured lower left), in a deal that will ensure good strength now and for the future. Leaving the Stars is LW Dirk Graham and young promising Centreman, Cliff Ronning. Delorme explains the deal. "We were disappointed in our offensive output against Calgary in the playoffs". " Once you got past Steve Yzerman and Mike Gartner, we didn't have alot of offensive depth, so the addition of these 2 guys will help tremendously".  In a separate deal with the Montreal Canadiens, the Stars added young goalie, Mario "Goose" Gosselin(pictured on the right) and young Centreman, Brian Skrudland. " We needed to shore up in net, and adding a guy like Goose ensures good things between the pipes for several years. And Brian can add some offence down the middle, but the big thing with him is his intensity and his defensive conscience". " He is a young leader, who will hope will help in the leadership department, along with Steve and Garts". going to the Habs, are the Stars 2nd pick in 87 and the Stars 1st pick in 88, along with cash. In a small, separate deal with the Boston Bruins, GM Derek Delorme added Dmen Mats Thelin and youngster Don Sweeney. Headed to Beantown is veteren defenseman, Gordie Roberts. The Stars are hoping for big things this year, but the schedule maker wasn't kind. First on the docket is a matchup with the powerhouse Montreal Canadiens, and following that is a trip to Long Island to play the Islanders..These are the two teams of course, who played in the Wales Conference championship last season, so it's definitely going to be an uphill climb..Stay tuned folks, it's going to be a fun ride this season! Go Stars Go!

**Breaking News**Stars qualify 3!

The Northstars announced this morning that they have opted to qualify three potential RFA's. Dirk Graham, Tom McCarthy and recently acquired defenceman Petr Svoboda were all tendered qualifying offers from the North Stars.

 Graham

 Svoboda

 McCarthy

Rumors are running rampant that the Stars may be on the verge of dealing Graham to another unnamed team. There are also rumors swirling that the North Stars are going to make a huge splash in the free agent market..Stay tuned for details as they unfold! This free agent period promises to be very interesting indeed.

Slim Pickings at 86 Entry Draft!

The North Stars didn't fare as well as they would've liked at the 1986 entry draft, but they did fill one need that was pressing for the organization-A goalie! The Stars drafted G Ron Tugnutt with their first pick in the draft. The youngster comments on his draft destination. "I'm very pleased to be a member of the North Star family" "There were some decent goalies available in this draft so im honored to think that the stars felt like i was one of them." "I will do everything i can to reward their faith in me!". GM Derek Delorme's comments echo those of Tugnutt. "goalies are a rare commodiity, so when you can draft one of Ronny's quality, you jump on the chance..The Stars organization is quite pleased!"

In the 2nd round, the Stars drafted young Edmonton born defenceman, Greg Hawgood..The Stars felt like a need had to be addressed on the blue line and were pleased to get a young guy who could help out on the backend.

All in all, the Stars feel like they did the best they could to address the holes that were obvious when this team came under new management. The future is indeed brighter than the stars for this organization.

Hello there!

Thanks for visiting my site dedicated to the RFNHL and more specifically, the Minnesota North Stars..I have been in the league for a few weeks but it hasn't taken me long to have a good feeling about the league and the people in it..I look forward to continue to deal with all of you at one time or another, and i very much enjoy the active nature of this league!

My team is starting to take shape the way i want it too, but there are many things left to accomplish! I would like to beef up my farm team with young and talented players. there are also positions on my pro roster that i look forward to improving in the off season. Before we get to that point however, we have the RFNHL playoffs, which begin very soon. My Stars would have to be considered a longshot at best, given that there are teams like Edmonton, NY Islanders, and Montreal, among others, vying for the Stanley Cup! I made a blockbuster trade a couple of weeks ago, which landed me superstar C, and newly appointed franchise player, Stevie Yzerman! I figured that this deal would hurt me in the short term, due to the fact that i gave up so much talent off my core of the roster, but my team has held it's own thus far, so we'll see how things shake down during the stretch run!

I would like to take the opportunity to thank Keith Eby for inviting me into the league, and for the hard work he puts into the league on a daily basis, as i'm sure it's a grind to say the least! I'd also like to thank Donovan White and Jamie Gagnon for their hard work as well! I would also like to thank everybody in the league for making me feel so welcome and for being as active as they have been so far..(That means you especially, Al)..Don't quit! As i'm sure Keith would attest, good GM's can be hard to find!

On this site, there may be times that I state an opinion or two that might rub someone the wrong way, but that isn't my intention..I am very passionate about the things i believe in, and the things i care about..If i'm going to invest myself in a project, i'm going to give my all and sometimes that may mean that i say things that are well intended but could ruffle a feather or two..I will always back up what i say, and i am first and foremost, a good citizen, so you don't have to worry about that! LOL.

Anyways, enjoy my site, i will be adding things regularly, and i am receptive to ideas if you have them..I have included links to the RFNHL website and CBA, and have also included a chat section and photo gallery! there is also a section titled "About the GM", this is where you get to read a little bit about the likes and preferences of yours truly..

Enjoy, regards, Derek Delorme (Minnesota North Stars CEO, President, and GM)
