Name: Earth and Beyond Made by: Westwood (Electronic Arts) Type of Game: MMORPG (Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) Released: September 24, 2002 Price: Around $44.99 ($12.99 monthly. Other pay options) Rating: 9.0 out of 10.0 Front of Box:
The Review: Earth and Beyond...It's name implies where it take place. Well...actually Earth orbit, not on Earth itself. It's a very addicting and fun game.
You control a fighter ship. You get to whiz around the galaxy, going from system to system to complete the many quests provided for you by the commanders and such of your race. Oh yeah... You're one of the three races: Terran, Jenquai, and Progen. All three are human. Each race has it's own unique qualities. In otherwords, strengths and weaknesses. You can be a tradesmen, warrior, or explorer. Again, each is unique. Your ship can be upgraded and such and also customized when you start your character. That's right, no two zebr...excuse me...ships look alike. You can even put these cool little decals on your ship. You even get to name it! Anyways, you gain levels as you finish quests, discover new areas, and kill monsters. Sounds fun, huh? Yeah...for the first few days...
All you do in this game is do quests. Oh yeah, and kill aliens. Kill Aliens.Aliens. Get what I'm trying to say? No? I'm saying there's no PVP!
*GASP!*
"What the hell did you just say?!"
Yep, that's right boys and girls...No PVP. Well, for now anyway. If this game plans to survive, it must be added. Anyway...
All you do is so quests. Finish one quest, get another one. Finish that one, get another one... Ooohh...How fun... Oh well, you can still go around and kill things... But that also gets boring... Oh well, you can still cruise around the galaxy! Yeah, you can cruise...But warping is so damn slow! You'd think that warp means really super-duper fast, but with a NooB Warp Engine(Reactor), it' still slow... It took me almost an hour to travel from one system to another just to finish some dumb mission. 1 hour?! What the hell am I gonna so for an hour?? Well you could read a book...or you could chat...or you could unzip your pants and...Whoa! Let's not go there! But yeah, you get the idea.
My Conclusion: This game feels like a single-player game. Even with the group and guild options, it just doesn't feel like a true MMORPG. Probably cause you really don't need any help with any of the missions. No PVP is a big NO-NO. PVP is a big element in all MMORPGs. PVP defines a game. It's one of the big "make it-or-break it" factors.
But you also have to remember that this game is new. So that means there's still much hope for change. So even with its negatives, because it's new, it evens out. I give Earth and Beyond an 9.0.

Name: Shattered Galaxy Made By: Nexon Type of Game: RTS (Real Time Strategy) Released: N/A Price: N/A Rating: 6.5 out of 10.0 Front Cover of Box: N/A
The Review: Shattered Galaxy...a true RTS. A pay-to-play game but has a 2 week trial period. Very intense StarCraft and Capture the Flag like game. You are a part of faction. Your job is to go and kill the other faction and take their territory. Obliterate them. Wish that they never messed with your faction. Over 70 provinces on each of the currently 3 playable planets. Customizable characters and battle units. Depending on how you raise the stats of your character, you get certain units and items for them. Make stealthy infiltrators or slow, but deadly mech type units. Organzied Regiment system allows for finding a friend and protection. Organized politics which includes an OverLord and the possible 12 advisors of his Council. Many problems, gameplay and technical things. Terrible AI. Tell units to go somewhere, and if theirs a physical structure in the way, they may run into the structure and stay there. Units run into each other and get stuck un "Traffic Jams." Unbalanced units makes for some to be super strong or super weak. Technical problems include many bugs that allow losing teams to automattically win. Laggers can sometimes kick everyone out of a full battle. Bugs where you're units won't spawn in battles. Nexon's developers like to change things w/o notice or change things that are good and make them worse. They seem to like to screw around with the players. Delays, Delays, Delays! They say something will happen today, it'll happen tomorrow, and if it doesn't happen then, wait till tomorrow again. They release things into the game that many times don't work. They attempt to listen to the players, yet many times, they go against the players' wishes. Bad communication between players and company. And other problems that I can't think of.
My Conclusion: SG went gold about a year ago. I played during the Beta-testing period and it still feels like It's still Beta. Only difference is that I'm paying to play this time. This game was released way too early, that's why so many bugs. I give Shattered Galaxy a 6.5

Name: Warcraft III - Reign of Chaos Made By: Blizzard Entertainment Type of Game: RTS/RS (Real Time Strategy/Roleplaying Strategy) Released: July 3, 2002 Price: Around $54.99 Collector's Edition: $74.99 Gift Set: $59.99 Rating: 9.0 out of 10.0 Front Cover of Box:
The Review: Like all of Blizzard's other games, this game is great. The storyline, from what I've read, is very intruiging. I love the 2 new races, the Undead and the Night Elves. Always good to have something to new to play with. The game is now 3D, and the units are great. The movies are stunning! Pure Eye Candy! There are a few things I don't like also. Even though you can usually defeat your opponent with about 20-25 units, sometimes you need more. Much more. The food/unit limit is only 90. A big drop from the other "Craft" games. Another problem is the that the campaign stories tend to get boring and you start having meaningless missions. The human campaign is like that. This game has lived up to it's expectations, but not past it. I give it a 9.0.
