Ok, so I won't give names of who put me through this ... but one Thanksgiving when I was a kid, I went to a family Thanksgiving with no turkey, gravy, potatoes... just squash. I can remember miles and miles of squash. I believe there were three kinds on the table. That's it. I was a bad boy - I was not very thankful and I think everyone knew it. I should probably apologize to this day...
What about you? How did you celebrate this year, or do you have a best or worst to share?
Let us in.... I have admitted my thanksgiving dark side.
I hardly ever get to hear the voice of a native american brother, so that was very refreshing. I cannot crawl out of my caucasian skin, but I did have to face some new questions. Will we as the church accept Native American culture? What should we embrace, and what should we not embrace? (if anything?) How was Christ already in some of their rituals - or was He? My answer really comes to I hope I get a chance to get into a greater conversation with these brothers and sisters and find some things out. I am illiterate in this area.
Perhaps you are not as illiterate as I am - you have experience or thoughts on the whole thing. Let us know!
Oh, that sweet culture of the 1970's... I wasn't involved in the church then, but I know there were some pretty strange things going on... I know that I had bell bottoms and long hair and had my own club - The Rabbit Tending Club - based on the rabbit with sharp teeth from Monty Python and the Holy Grail. So, to reach someone like me you would have had to have come to me somehow... (which a church group did, and that is partially why I am in ministry today)
I am meeting this Sunday night with some younger guys who will be discussing doing discipleship together in the city - things like reading through the gospels while we bring coffee to folks at the bus station, or maybe bring snacks to the street kids on State Street - I don't quite know yet... but it will be another off the map experience for me to keep me on my toes and listening to the Holy Spirit.
Bottom Line - I think church needs to come down to State Street...
Where would you like to see an incarnational gig happen in Santa Barbara or your city, and why, and into what culture. Cool questions like these beg you to blog now!
