The Patronus Charm
The Patronus
Charm is used to summon a Patronus. The word "Patronus" is Latin,
meaning "Patron Saint". A patronus is a silvery conjured creature
used to ward off Dementors and Lethifolds.
To summon a patronus, the uses
must bring to mind a strong happy memory and concentrate on it.
The user then speaks the incantation "Expecto Patronum". Most
patronuses appear as a shapeless silvery mist, but if performed
correctly, it will form a "corporeal Patronus", which means it takes
the form of an actual creature (corporeal means having a physical form,
from "corpus" L. for body).
The Patronus Charm is a very
advanced and difficult one to use. Most beginners are not able to
summon a corporal Patrounus. Only through experience, hard work
or sheer talent is one able to summon one.
