About The Band:

Evanescence (ev'e-nes'ens) - a dissipation or dissapearence like vapor

Ben Moody and Amy Lee, the founding members of Evanescence, met at church camp. Ben was with a worship group and Amy was a camper. Ben was watching a basketball game when he heard amy playing Meat Loaf's 'Id Do Anything For Love.' He quickly crossed to introduce himself and Amy continued to play more songs and sing for him. Moody was blown away and convinced her to join his band. The first song written by evanescence was 'Solitude' by Amy, then 'Understanding' by Ben, followed by 'Give Unto Me' by Amy Lee, and the fourth song ever written by them was 'My Immortal' which they wrote together. At first the band consisted of just Ben and Amy and they would pay other people to play with them for a few shows at a time. The band went threw many names before picking evanescence including Childish Intentions and Stricken  before Moody convinced Amy to pick a name that started with E because he had some cool artwork. Hence the name Evanescence, which means to evaporate like vapor. Ben is no longer with the band, he left while they were on tour. He claims him and the band were going in seperate directions and he now has his own cd. The band is currently working on a new cd titled The Open Door, which was delayed because Terry Balsamo (former member of Cold) had a stroke. It is now due out on October 3rd and Im sure it will be just as great if not better than the others. The first full length album, origin, was released in 2000. Only 2500 copies were made. At first Evanescence was concidered Christian rock even though the band made it very clear they did not want to be considered christian rock. Fallen even made it to the top of the charts on christian rock music untill it was pulled from the shelves after Moody swore during an interview. UpDate: Will Boyd left the band a couple months ago so that he could spen some time with his family, touring is difficult because your away so long. Im sure We'll all miss him!
