Help us to save The Martial Art (not Sport) of Judo!!
Judo is under threat from becoming a Sport only system. The Government want to force every Judo organisation to be certificated as a 'coach' by the BJA (British Judo Association). Does this ring alarm bells with anyone else? If this is successful every independent Judo organisation would have to become a member of the BJA. The BJA would have total control over every aspect of British Judo and it is almost certain that Newaza would disappear.
In Olympic Judo you only have 30 seconds to gain a hold, choke or lock (which is almost impossible) the BJA support this and we fear that Newaza would be lost, and the only way to train / compete in 'Newaza' would be Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, why allow this to happen? Why should people who have no interest in 'Sport Judo' be forced in to a Governing Body that gives priority to the sporting side of a Martial Art? We would lose the Goshin Jitsu Kata (the Self-Defence Aspect of Judo), Go No Kata (Jigaro Kano's own Kata based on Ju Jitsu), Renkoho Waza (Arresting Techniques) and many more Katas / Techniques and Traditions and Theories.
In fact the BJA doesn't require any form of Kata in most gradings!!!

Judo is more than a Sport and it should be kept that way.

We owe it to Shihan Kano to save Traditional Kodokan Judo
Kano did not envision Judo to be a Sport, but a life long study to unify the mind and body. He intended it to be a system of Self-Defence and this can be seen by many of the pictures (of) and writings by him and his senior students such as Yoshitsugu (Yoshiaki) Yamashita, 10th dan and Kyuzo Mifune.
Keep Judo the way it is, A Sport, A Martial Art, A Self-Defence System and most of all available for everyone, not just those interested in competition by IJF rules.

Judo is an effective Self-Defence system but it will turn in to a sport unless we fight the UKCC
