Celebrations
The studio went back in time on Wednesday 6th July 2005, to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of VE/VJ Days. The full
days broadcasting became a celebration of
Victory in Europe. Of
course the presenters were able to get into character also and this
added to the success of the day.
Listeners were able to take themselves back in time to bombing raids, petrol shortages, blacked out streets and the radio served as a life-line during the wartime years. Listeners could sit back and enjoy the same music from artists such as Vera Lynn (forces sweetheart), Gracie Fields
and George Formby to name a few.
The celebrations would not have been the same without the senior citizens in our area who came into the studio to look back and discuss their experiences throughout the war-time years.
Shankill Radio would like to thank everyone for their support and commitment during this event.
