Scrumptious Scooby!

Who could forget Scooby?

Found at a local school, playing football with the children, Scooby was taken in by Laura and after a couple of weeks of healing his bleeding paws and a few good meals,he was ready for a huge adventure, first he had to travel from Wales to Southend and it was love at first sight. He greeted everyone with kisses and oozed charm.

Scooby lives with Honey and they swap beds but their favourite pastimes are playing tug-o-war, drinking from the birdbath and bringing in mud to the living room.

Scooby now lives and is loved by Therese, Tim, Benn and Honey.

Laura says thank you for going to such lengths to give Scooby such a wonderful home, it's a pleasure to know you.

DUFFY now called DAISY

Duffy has gone to live with Trina, Dave and lovable lurcher Gilbert.

AIMEE now called FLY

Fly is now sharing a new home with her Irish Wolfhound friends near Kidwelly, they all live with Liz and Jeff.

Fly looks tiny alongside her new friends but has no problems fitting in.

Fly has proved to have a wonderful personality and temperament and loves children and other dogs. She is no longer shy but is relaxed and like any other pup, playful and fun.

Fly fishing!!!!!

August 2008, clever Fly went to the Wolfhound Rally and was chosen as best rescue dog, well done Fly.

Gentle Jimbo

Picture is of Jimbo when rescued, please send us an updated photo of Jimbo Annette, with his blankie or his parrot!!

Latest info on Jimbo's new life with Annette.

What a fab website! It's lovely to compare notes about the new relationships being forged by delighted owners.
For my own part, having Jimbo arrive into our family has been fantastic!
He settled down really quickly and ordered the members of the family according to his preference.
Friends and relatives are surprised by his size! A true gentle giant! Also, it has to be said- a bit of a wimp when other dogs bark at him!
It is a joy to be greeted by a wagging tail as he watches and waits in the front window for our return and we have lost every race to answer the door to visitors.
He loves his 'blankie' which he adopted one cold afternoon and drags it to favoured spots in the house. We have a good giggle as he lies upside down against a wall or sofa.
I think I made a bit of a mistake buying a white brocade suite with a black greyhound but he looks so comfy, we haven't the heart to tell him to shift!
Jimbo loves his toys, in particular his owl from his aunty Meryl and his parrot which he loves to cwtch!
I would thoroughly recommend adopting a greyhound to someone wanting a loving and docile friend. Even though Jimbo has medical issues, this has not impacted on our lives and I'm eternally grateful to Angie and Gerry for entrusting this
beautiful dog into my care.
Good luck to Swiss Valley Greyhound Rescue!
Love to all
Annette and Jimbo

Wonderful Winnie

 Now proudly owned and adored by Pauline;

We adopted Winnie from swiss Valley on October 15th 2007. We have owned dogs for 40 years but only great danes & for the last 14 years, german pointers.

When one of our lovely pointers died from lung cancer we
decided to adopt a retired greyhound. We were very apprehensive as we knew nothing about them apart from what we sourced via the internet. We decided that we should get an older dog as our remaining gsp was nearly 14 and wouldn't take kindly to a youngster around her heels. We found Winnie on the SVGR and as she is 7yrs old we had in depth conversations with Angie at swiss valley and decided to take Winnie on. Winnie was a good racer in her younger days and won many races, she was then used for breeding but when she became of no further financial benefit she was discarded like an old cardigan.

Before we had her she was fostered by Laura who made an amazing job of house training and socialising her.
From the very first time we met Winnie we were totally in love with her. She has the sweetest gentle nature anyone could wish for. She walks by my side, is quiet, obedient and so so loving. She gets on very well with Ellie, my old gsp, and she has brought so much love into our lives I cannot believe we can be so lucky.
If anyone reading this has never owned a greyhound before and is a little apprehensive, let me put your mind at rest. This will be the best decision you ever make. You will be rewarded with so much devotion from these gentle creatures, but be warned. One is never enough!!. We can honestly say that after owning Winnie for just one day we knew we would always have a rescued greyhound in our lives for as long as we are physically able.
photographs of Winnie with her favorite toy and of Winnie & Ellie together. Both photographs were taken within 2 days of having Winnie coming to live with us.

Tess is an 11 year old staffie bitch.

No, not a greyhound or even a lurcher, but nevertheless was in need of help!

She was picked up miles from home and when her owner was traced they decided not to take her back.

Angie had Tess living in her house with her  'family' for the last few weeks and couldn't understand why anyone would not want her.

Tess was a quiet, gentle, undemanding little dog.

She was housetrained, good with other dogs, and CAT Friendly

and wonderful with children.

Eventually she got her forever home,

Good Luck Tess

 Winnie, Treasure rehomed

and

Black Dog (still in need of a home)

They had lived their whole lives in kennels.

These kennels were in a field and they had no heat or light or running water.

Their retired owner had to carry water for them when she went on her daily visit.  Eventually, as the dogs faced another bleak winter the owner wisely decided to hand them over to a rescue.

Winnie is now living as acompanion to a lovely lady called Grace.

Treasure will be staying in foster care with me, Laura as he has mobility problems and apparent bone cancer in the hock.

Treasure is pain free and enjoying part of our family

POOR, STARVED STAR!

Let us introduce Star, now called Noel.

He had offers of foster and adoptive homes galore, he was on all the hound forums and is a real super star

19/12/07

Star has his forever home with Deb

The lady who brought Star in had seen him with cats and said he is fine.  As he only came in yesterday we haven't cat tested him yet.  We're sure he's OK but we will take him to the cattery tomorrow to be doubly sure.  He is in a bit of a state and needs feeding up.  His owner sent us a note via the lady who brought him in, saying that the cuts on his legs were where he was trying to escape, I'm not surprised it looks as though he's been starved.  We've had him off lead in Angies garden (which is quite large) and he couldn't wait to get back to his little room.  He's too thin to go in kennels so Angie's put him in an annexe to her house that she uses for house training. He is completely housetrained, quiet, fine to be left on his own and good with other dogs. He is currently in with Boots a 4 year old male with a damaged leg.

Star was called Scar, horrid name for such a sweet natured hound, we are led to believe he had been taken in by a family 4 months or so ago. He lived with the family of 4 children, 3 cats etc until the novelty wore off, then he was locked in a shed, a neighbour grew concerned and alerted us, once handed over to SVGR we could see the real extent of the abuse he has suffered, he has cuts and sores but the worse part of it is that he seems to have been starved.
After all of this he is a gentle, kind and trusting little greyhound,

Maple

Maple and her best friend Griff.

Magic rehomed Nov 2007

We thought we would let you know how our adopted greyhound is
doing. She is really lovely and we have named her Magic. She is settling in very
well and seems very happy. She is easy going, calm and very well behaved in the
house. In fact, she seems the perfect dog for us. We all love her to bits,
thankyou so much for putting us in touch with Judy and for all the care you took
in helping us find the right match. Hope you are well. We will let you know how
she is doing and will keep in touch.

Thanks again. All the best,

Rhiannon and
the girls.

Re-homed 28/11/07

Diesel

Blue and white neutered male whippet.

This is Diesel, he is a charming 2 to 3 year old whippet, he is large at 22" to the shoulder

but has all the usual 'whippetty' traits.

I'm (Laura) currently fostering him, he is quite at home in amongst my 'misfits' and certainly likes his creature comforts.

He gets on well with male and female dogs of all breeds.

When found Diesel had severe damage to his tail which unfortunately meant he had to have it amputated,

he doesn't even have a stump,

this has healed up well and does not seem to affect him in any way.

Diesel adores people, especially children and is a bit of a kisser, he enjoys food and treats.

He travels well in the car and enjoys being groomed.

He is currently learning how to walk nicely on a lead and to be clean in the house,

we're sure he will succeed as he is a very clever dog who just wants to please all he meets.

If you can offer Diesel a lap to curl up on and a comforting cuddle, please call Angie on 01554 773136

or Laura on 01443 475415

Diesel making himself at home.

LOVELY LUCKY

RE-HOMED 18/11/07

BUDDY

Just look into my eyes!

I have a home as of 18/11/07

Juliet rehomed November 2007

SARAH

Has been rehomed Nov 2007

Lucy is a 3 year old, lively blue bitch who didn't make the grade as a racer.

Lucy has been successfully re-homed.

Monty is a stunning, handsome 18 month old brindle boy who was bred at Swansea Track.  Monty has also been successfully re-homed locally.

Lady

18/10/07 Lady has a home of her own.

Lady is a beautiful blue bitch with amber eyes, she is 2 years of age.

Katy

18/10/07 Katy has a home of her own.

Katy is a 3 year old brindle bitch

retired from racing due to a minor injury.

Patches

18/10/07 Patches has a home of his own.

Unwanted and unloved.

Patches is an 18 month old greyhound who hasn't raced.

He is white with black patches and a huge personality,

this strikingly handsome fellow is good with other dogs but not cats.

Although slightly submissive, Patches is a very happy

and playful young dog.

He would suit and love an active family home to call his own.

Valerie

Don't let Val's last days be in kennels, help us to find her a home.

Do you have a comfy spot for an oldie? Can you offer this lovely girl the love and attention she deserves?

Valerie is an 11 year old ex racing greyhound who has only recently known the comfort of a home but has taken to it like a duck to water.

Val is housetrained, non destructive and can be left for reasonable periods.  Val is good with other dogs and children.  Despite her age Val is a healthy, active girl who enjoys her walks.

The reason for Val's return from her last home is that her owner had to take Val to work with her and Val had a tendency to wander off and there were too many exits to keep her safe.  Please consider this oldie, she's easy to live with and is a real sweetheart.
Val is re-available as her prospective owner didn't realise her age!

Update 25/9/07 Offer of a home is being vetted.

Yippee, Val has been re-homed.

8/11/07

Star has been rehomed via Greyhound Welfare.

Star is a 3 year old ex racer from Swansea.  He's a mild mannered dog who's housetrained, good on the lead and good with other dogs.  He can also be left on his own for reasonable periods of time.  He doesn't jump up or snatch treats so may be suitable to be homed with children.
