Sweet ‘n’ Sour is a monthly art night held at 291 Gallery, every second Tuesday of each month.
This creative project came out of one of my regular summer talks with freestyle poet Raj B, last year. But the project has always been in the back of my head since I have organized the art festival One world One life, which combined different types of arts. Since then, I’ve been interested to explore the idea of contrasts by fusing different kinds of art with each other. Sweet ‘n’ Sour was born!
I call it a Cinematic cabaret because of the variety of live and visual acts which feature each night. But Sweet ‘n’ Sour is first of all a fusion of spoken words, sound, theatrics, and visuals to capture, challenge and provoke the audience’s emotions and senses.
Sweet ‘n’ Sour is a challenging project both for the audience and the artists because at each session, I am willing to break the boundaries and to take to another level the format of an entertaining night, by trying new things in collaboration with the artists.
With Sweet ‘n’ Sour, I don’t pretend to come to you with anything new or revolutionary. Sweet ‘n’ Sour in it own way celebrates the creativity and tries to encourage the collaboration between artists who are happy to take part of this adventure.
Since it first started in February 2004, Sweet ‘n’ Sour has brought me to so many unknown territories as the adventure took different directions through the monthly sessions. But more importantly, I’ve had the chance and the honour to meet so many talented artists- painters, video artists, poets, storytellers, acoustic bands, Folk singers etc…- and so many interesting personalities who have been happy to share the Sweet ‘n’ Sour experience for one night or for more.
If you decide to go beyond this- I hope you will- you will have a first flavour of what is Sweet ‘n’ Sour, an idea of the artists who gave to Sweet ‘n’ Sour its unique vibe, and if you feel like discussing the theme of the month, using your language whether it is literary, visual or musical, please feel free to drop us a few thoughts.
Enjoy your journey and see you hopefully one night for a Sweet ‘n’ Sour session !
