26/6/07 - The life and Times of a Film-maker

News time.

First up the - I guess I should say bad news.

About a month or so back I broke up with my Girlfriend of about 4 years. Trust me, you don't want details. So currently, my life is in transit. I have a place to live, but need to wait for it to be vaccated.

In the mean time, I've played around with my new camera. Tony and I shot a ridiculous little piece based on one of Tony's ideas. It's available here

Ghostbusters Oz is moving along from a pre-production point of view. We've got nearly all of our props made, the script is finally complete, minus a few revisions and we are we pretty much good to go. After we get through Comic Convention season, we're going to get back into some shooting.

I'm working on a feature length script, Titled "Sarah's Grave. This won't be around for a while, I hoping to get it produced and a budget arranged.

The best news we've had so far is we've had a friend of ours commit to investing some cash into our films. Myself and Dr Gonzo are currently trying to come up with an idea worthy of spending the man's money on.

26/6/07 - I guess it's been a while

The thing about sites like these - ones run independently by their creators - is that it can look like people have given up. You go back, you check, there's nothing on site, no changes, nothing. So, inevitably, you think to yourself "Well, this never changes and it's been almost twelve months. Guess he's moved on to other things." Which, in all fairness, you wouldn't be completely wrong in your estimation.

I - me, personally - hadn't given up. I never will, it seems. The desire for me to do this, to be creative, to tell stories in this and the other mediums I've chosen, is just way too strong. I don't stop. Ever. Even just the simple re-telling of my day can take on an epic feel when I turn my hand to it. I like entertaining people! I love nothing more than to see someone hooked in and enjoying something I've done. Whether it be a simple story or joke I recited, a comic strip or book that I've written and drawn or a movie I have made. The joy I get from watching someone experience one of my creations - I really can't put it into words.

The problem comes when you try to include others. Before I go on, this isn't me complaining. I have some wonderful friends - some of which are featured on this site - who all have supported and helped out in some of my outlandish ideas and helped bring some of them to fruition. But what it comes down to is that people have lives. They have their own dreams and goals that they are trying to fill. And although they support you, and are always eager to help if they can, sometimes it just isn't possible. I have to admit, that's one thing I love about comics. It's you and a cast of thousands. One pencil, one brush, some ink and an entire universe at your disposal.

So, with this whole new startup of the site, let me just first mention a few things. Firstly, to everyone who has given of their time and effort to help with one of my insane projects, thank you. I know I can be an asshole of a director and bark orders and scream about 'not doing it right'. So to anyone who has put up with that over time, thank you so much.

Next, the future of Swashbuckler. I kind of realise that this sounds like a bit of an end of times letter, but it isn't. Let me just make one thing clear. I AIN'T GOING NOWHERE!! I have my new computer and editing software. I'm still figuring out some of the bugs and learning the program, but it's getting there. I have - well, it's coming anyway - my new camera. A high def, broadcast quality digital video camera that I spent three and a half thousand dollars that I didn't have on. I have ideas, I have scripts and I have desire. Swashbuckler will be around for as long as I'm around.

So don't give up on us. Because with God, or Allah, or Zeus or Odin or whoever as my witness, I ain't giving up.

No way, no day.
