SUSKA AKK Breeds for Health first, Temperament and Conformation follow.
HEALTH
As important as I feel it is to have calm AKK so important is it to have healthy pups. Healthy pups come from healthy dogs. All Suska dogs are tested and retested and vaccinated for anything they may come in contact with. A dog that shows any unhealthy attributes will not be used in this breeding program. Currently my dogs are Factor VII clear, all eyes, knees, thyroids and liver panels have been run and all the dogs here are as healthy as one can expect. Including Kiski, my altered boy. Any outside breedings I do will be to dogs similarly tested. Subsequently all puppies born here have as good a start in life as one can hope for. Notwithstanding, any live being can have some problems but we have done all that can be done to assure this is at a minimum.
TEMPERMENT
Alaskan Klee Kai are known to be shy and wary of strangers. Sometimes this extends even to people they know. Here at Suska my goal is to have calm, easy going Alaskan Klee Kai that still have enough of the stranger wariness to not run off with them the way Siberians Huskies will. On this site you will meet each of the Alaskan Klee Kai currently living here and you will see how different their temperaments are.
CONFORMATION
Alaskan Klee Kai were bred down from Alaskan Huskies which have no real breed standard. AKK also have some Siberian and a little Eskimo and Schipperke. The Eskie and Skip were used to bring the breed down in size without dwarfism. The Sibe was used to give them a set appearance. Alaskan Klee Kai resemble Siberian Huskies or Alaskan Malamutes in miniature. Our dogs are supposed to have a contrasting coat pattern without spots and a wedge shaped head, straight forelegs and correctly angled rear legs with lots of power behind them. Here at Suska I strive to have pups with as close to the United Kennel Club's written Standards as I can get.
