1881 census: Residing Cokeham, Sompting.  Occupation: garden labourer. John M Petter aged 4 lodging with them.

1891: census; Residing The Street. Sompting. Occupation: market gardener.

 1901 census;  Residing Cokeham, Sompting. Occupation:  market garden labourer. Brother Thomas living with them..

1891 census: Residing 8 Anns Place Hammersmith. Occupation: general labourer

1901 census: residing 104 Colville Rd, Acton. Occupation: horsekeeper stableman

1911 census: Mary Ann visiting her father and uncle. Census states 14 children, 7 living 7 dead (but may have been filled in incorrectly?)

1901 Residing with William & Rebecca Swan, Slindon Common occupation: shepherd [by coincidence William and Rebecca’s daughter Miriam Swan then aged 6 was to be my mother’s godmother]

1881 census: residing Barnham Farm House Gate, Barnham with George and Marsha (Martha?) Burtenshaw.  The latter and George’s mother Maud Burtenshaw aged 86 were from Lancing.  Occupation: farm

1891 census: Residing Monks Cottages, Lancing with James & Jane Steer. Occupation: agricultural labourer

1901 census: residing with his brother William at Cokeham.   Occupation: agricultural labourer

1911 census: Residing with brother. Occupation: old age pensioner
