JAMES JONES

Married: 1826 Tipton Mary Ann Middleton

Married: 1828 Tipton Ann Law

James Jones was baptised 26 December 1802 St Martins, Tipton the son of John Jones and Sarah Sheldon. On 16/10/1826 at St Martin, Tipton he married Mary Ann Middleton who had been born about 1805. It was witnessed by John Jones & Mary Whitehouse. All four made their marks. Poor Mary Ann was buried at St Martinís less than a year latter 6 August 1827. He was left with a baby son John who had been baptised in the April. Almost a year latter, 3 August 1728 he married again, at Ann Law born about 1811 from Oldbury, in St Thomas Dudley. This marriage

was witnessed by Joseph & Ann Wood

He long outlived Ann as well, as she die in 1855 from TB. James appears to have lived all his life on the Horsley Heath area of Tipton working as a labourer. In 1841 they had his cousin Joseph Sheldon, locksmith, born Madras lodging with them

In 1861 as a widower he had his youngest children David and Ann living with him

And they were lodging with Thomas Lappage (bricklayer aged 27) & Sarah Lappage

Ten years later he was at 99 Horsley Heath still a lodger with the Lappages (who now had five children). Sarah Lappage was his niece, the daughter of his brother Benjamin. She was baptised 16/8/1835 St Martins, Tipton

Five of these children died before him; three as infants , Mary, William and Sarah and two Benjamin as a young man of 26 and Samuel.
