Note 1.: Banns read April 2,9,16 1758. John Trimmer of ye parish of Rogate and Eleanor Caywood of this parish. John was a Labourer and Eleanor a widow. Married by Thomas Durnford, vicar with Richard Baker and Ralph Earle as witnesses (Ralph Earle was witness to many marriages at this time). Both John & Eleanor made their marks.

Note 2: John Trimmer married 1st 29/9/1747 in St Peter the Great Chichester Mary Allen . He was from West Stoke she of Funtington

Note 3: Dame Trimer,Trimar, Trimmar is mentioned in Rogate Overseers Accounts books from when they started on 19/31782 to 12/5/1784 (when indivual names ceased) for being paid for knitting pairs of stockings ‘nithing’ or ‘wosted’. No mention of her when individual names resumed in 1794]

Quite a lot of Caywoods in the 17 & 18 centuries in Farnham, Surrey/Aldershot, hants areas. Though not in Susex. A William wa bur in Aldershot in 1670 and a Francis bur there 12/9/1670. Jane bur there 22/6/1674, a Joane 19/1/1679 and a Joan 24/3/1693. A John of Aldershot had a daug mary bapt in Ash, Surrey 16/10/1760 and a daug Anne bapt there 23/11/1766. A John of Runweek had a daugh Ann bapt Farnham 23/8/1712 , and a John a daughter Mary bapt Farnham 11/7/1699. A Francis had a daughter Mary baptised 29/12/1691. This was probably the Francis who m Mary Wooldridge of Aldershot in Farnham 26/12/1690. A Samuel of Farnham batchelor m Mary Boxall spinster of Ash by banns 13/5/1790 with Thomas Harden & Phillip Wheeler as witnesses. A Charles cooper of Woking had his will proved in Archdeaconry Ct of Surrey 1749. A Thomas Cate (alia Cawood) miller of Stoke-next-Guildford had his will proved in 1690

John Cawode was cited as the clerk in relation to a legal case over property in Esshyngton and Wassyngton in Sussex in 1480/1 but the surname reputedly comes from a small town of that name nr Selby, York or else from a chapelry in parish of Melling, North Lancaster. More commonly found in Yorks. 1379 poll tax of York gives Willelmus de Cawood and a John de Cawode was cite a a Freeman of York in 1383-4. At the time of plague in 1349 Archbishop Zouch of York sometimes stayed at Cawood castle. Francis Caywood of Richmond held a freehold in West Horsley surrey on 15/4/1725. John Vawood m Elizabeth Jupe Shalford, Surrey 8/5/1694.

A John Cawoode (as above ckerk)Robert Morleu son of Nicholas Morley was sheriff of Surrey & Sussex 1488 wife may have been Mary who occurs in most of the old pedigrees but in will 1514 it was Alice daughter of Richard Warham widow of John Barrett. Robert died 1516 leaving elaborate instruction for founding of chantry in chapel of St John, Glynde, Sussex
