Domesticated Doves & Pigeons Like Human contact. They are quiet and peaceful, and make wonderful avery pets. They have a subtle appeal due to their special characteristices. Most have a pleasant voice a "cooing" sound. Most have about 4 to 5 types of calls, and they will bow and coo at the same time trying to court the female.

Doves have a life span of 15- 20 years, I read about one female who lived till she was 27 years old, and produced 221 offspring in her life time. Amazing isn't it.

I feed a mix of Cockariel and Pigeon.  They also enjoy spry millet as a treat. They need gravel to help with digestion, becuase they sawllow their seeds whole. ( They do no shell there seeds like a budgie ). Also tiny bit of Charcaol will aid in digestion. They also enjoy various grains and seeds. Like Millet, Millo, Wheat, Black Sunflower seeds, Canary Grass, Safflower and Cracked Corn. Doves also enjoy peas, and bread.

Doves also need calcium ( Crushed Egg Shell, Oyster Shell ). They need Calcium for bone development and egg development.

Doves can Dehydrate easily and this is very dangours conditions.

Keep the aviary clean, other wise this leaves way for problems and disease. So I fined 1 part bleach to 25 parts water is good when cleaning out the aviary or cage they live in.

Doves lay two eggs, and are the most dedicated parents that I have ever seen. Right up untill the young are eating on their own.

Never breed Silky To Silky. Can not over emphasize that enough. Silky is a mutation. To get Silky Doves you would take a Silky cross it with a Non-Silky Dove. If Silky is breed to Silky the mutation worsens. I will try to get a picture to show you what it looks like.
