The Warriors Three Have Been Cast

Thor director Kenneth Branagh has signed Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson, and Tadanobu Asano to play The Warriors Three.

The Warriors Three are made up of the Asgardians Fandral, Hogun and Volstagg.

Fandral the Dashing: is a warrior of Asgard and an adventurer. He is an irrepressible swashbuckler and romantic. His bravery and optimism often puts the group in highly disadvantageous positions; as perennially pointed out by the gloomy Hogun. Fandral considers himself the consummate ladies' man and is often depicted with a bevy of young ladies. His actual success with these ladies is intermittent at best, but as such provides numerous opportunities for humorous results. Despite these flaws, he possesses an excessively noble spirit and will do the right thing without thought to his personal safety or prosperity.

Hogun the Grim: The only thing known about his past is that he's not an Aesir like most of the Asgardians. Also, his unnamed homeland was conquered long ago by Mogul of the Mystic Mountain, who slew Hogun's forebears and laid waste to the land. He is primarily characterized by his brusque, taciturn, and often short-tempered demeanor. He is the brooding pessimist of the group, as opposed to Volstagg's irrepressible good humor and Fandral's brash heroism. He is a fierce and unrelenting warrior, a collector of weaponry and often the voice of reason for the Warriors Three.

Volstagg the Valiant: His origin beyond being a member of the Asgardian race, a warrior and adventurer, and a friend of Thor has not been revealed. Volstagg is fairly advanced in age for an Asgardian, and it has been suggested that he was a highly respected and feared warrior in his prime.

Anthony Hopkins Cast as Odin !!!

I did not see this coming! No, it won't be Robert De Niro or Jude Law or Brian Blessed, apparently Odin, Thor's father, will be played by none other than Anthony Hopkins in Marvel's upcoming Thor movie. THR's Heat Vision Blog reports that Hopkins is "in negotiations" to play the Norse god and ruler of Asgard in the adaptation being directed by Kenneth Branagh. We already know that the cast also includes Chris Hemsworth as the god of thunder Thor, Tom Hiddleston as his evil brother Loki, Natalie Portman, Jaimie Alexander, Colm Feore, and apparently Robert De Niro and Jude Law. Talk about a very impressive cast!

Odin is the ruler of Asgard, the mythical world where the Norse gods reside. He first appeared in Marvel's Journey into Mystery #86 in 1962 and was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The story in the movie is about Thor, a powerful but arrogant warrior whose reckless actions re-ignite an ancient war. As punishment, Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans. Once here, he learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends dark forces of Asgard to invade Earth. I wonder who that villain is? And has he been cast yet? Thor definitely gets a bit more anticipated with Hopkins in!

Chris Hemsworth is The God of Thunder

Chris Hemsworth has been cast as the title character in Kenneth Branagh’s big screen adaptation of Marvel’s Thor. Hemsworth will also be playing the mythic comic book character in the Summer 2012 superhero team-up film The Avengers.

You might be wondering, “Who the hell is Chris Hemsworth?” While you might not recognize his name, you saw him on the big screen last weekend in JJ Abrams’ Star Trek as George Kirk. Some of my critic friends had a big problem with Hemsworth’s performance in the opening sequence, but I did not.

Nikki Finke reports that Marvel and Branagh made the final decision earlier today after reviewing Hemsworth’s test footage, which was described as “Oh my god.” Chris is currently in production on the Joss Whedon-written Drew Goddard-directed horror film The Cabin in the Woods. The Australian actor was also just cast as the lead role in MGM’s Red Dawn remake last week.

He’s a virtual unknown in the United States, but he was a star on a successful television series back in Oz (171 episodes of Home and Away) and was on the 2006 Australian version of Dancing with the Stars.

Written by Mark Protosevich, the story has been described as being “like a superhero origin story, but not one about a human gaining super powers, but of a god realizing his true potential. It’s the story of an Old Testament god who becomes a New Testament god”.

Marvel will self-finance the production, and the film will be distributed by Paramount Pictures. Marvel has announced a June 17th 2011 release date for the film.

RUMOR :: Thor Cast Leaked :: RUMOR

We have all the details on the upcoming Thor movie!

The veil of mystery surrounding Marvel’s “Thor” movie has been lifted, and some plot details have surfaced along with a tentative casting list, of course things are subject to chane before the 2011 release date, but here’s what we know so far:

Kenneth Branagh is set to direct and as Odin, the king of the Asgardian gods and Thor’s father. Much of the film will take place in Asgard, but surprisingly, a great deal of it will also take place on Earth. The movie is planned as an origin story, and as most Thor fans know, the modern Thor as we know him began as a mortal, mild mannered medical student known as Donald Blake. In the original story, Thor was sent to Midgard (Earth) by Odin to learn humility, and not until he had proven himself worthy would he be able to lift the enchanted hammer “Mjolinir” and transform back into his immortal self.

Remarkably, Donald Blake will be played by Donald Sutherland’s real-life son, Kiefer Sutherland. When Blake eventually makes the transformation to Thor, he will then be played by Alexander Skarsgard,. Skarsgard seems like an excellent choice given that he pretty much looks and sounds exactly like Thor to begin with. This may sound strange but remember, Thor and Blake are actually two totally separate people (not at all like Superman/Clark Kent).

Much of the earlier part of the film will take place on Earth, in which fellow Asgardians Sif (Natalie Portman) and Balder (Josh Hartnett) are posing as mortals to watch over Thor in his vulnerable state. When Loki (played by Jamie Kennedy) gets wind of Thor’s banishment, he sends Enchantress (Marley Shelton) and Executioner (Jason Statham) to take him out. In their failure to do so, the two unwittingly unlock the godly powers within him. Following is an all out war between the two displaced brothers that threatens to destroy Midgard (again, Earth) in the process.

asgard

Loki responds to Thor’s awakening by attempting to trigger “Ragnarock”, the end of Asgard, and the destruction of all the gods within. Of course this attracts the attention of S.H.I.E.L.D., who intervene on Thor’s behalf at a crucial moment, setting up for the forthcoming “Avengers” movie. I’m not sure how well this well all work out, bouncing around between Earth and Asgard as much as it seems like they’re doing. Sounds a little bit like that shitty old He-Man movie from the 80s to me. I hope I’m wrong though, because if done right, this could be one of the best action pictures of 2011.

From Naboo to Asgard

From The MTV Splash Page..............

After a flood of recent “Thor” movie news that included a potential Josh Hartnett casting as the villain, Loki, and a reshuffled Marvel schedule that gave “Thor” a new release date, it looks like there are more changes afoot for the superhero son of Odin. Along with Alexander Skarsgård joining Hartnett in the potential “Thor” casting mix, a new name has been added to the possible list of “Thor” cast members: Natalie Portman.

“I’m told Natalie Portman is in the lead for the female lead,” reports Deadline Hollywood Daily blogger Nikki Finke .

After first breaking the news that Mickey Rourke and Scarlet Johansson had joined the “Iron Man 2″ cast last week, Finke now reports that the “Star Wars” prequels star could be cast opposite whoever ends up wielding the mighty hammer Mjolnir in Marvel’s much-anticipated Kenneth Branagh-helmed film.

If Portman is indeed leaving Naboo for Asgard, the question remains — who will the actress play in Marvel’s “Thor”? With the film purportedly set in Asgard, might Portman fill the role of Lady Sif, an Asgardian goddess and love interest for Thor? Will Marvel take a cue from J. Michael Straczynski’s current comic book run and cast Portman as a female Loki? Sure, the suggestion sounds ridiculous given rumors that Hartnett is up for the role of Thor’s nemesis, but Finke also reports that Marvel could be courting the “Sin City” actor to play the God of Thunder himself.

“There’s a big push to cast Josh Hartnett either in the winged helmet and/or as nemesis Loki, which is ironic since Warner Bros once upon a time threw an amazing amount of money at him to play Superman but he refused,” wrote Finke.

“But my sources say there’s an equally powerful lobby to cast an unknown [as Thor],” Finke added. According to the report, that potential list of actors includes the oft-mentioned Skarsgård, Charlie Hunnam (”Sons of Anarchy”), Tom Hiddleston (”The Gathering Storm”), Liam Hemsworth (”Knowing”) and Danish actor Joel Kinnaman.

Is Natalie Portman’s interest in the film a good sign or a bad sign, and would you dig a female Loki? Would you rather Josh Hartnett as Loki, Thor or neither? Strike thunder upon thine comments section!

Mortal Thor Character in Thor Movie ???

How exactly does Marvel's God of Thunder Thor come to earth in preparation for The Avengers? IESB.net might have the answer. The site says:

A reliable source tells the IESB that the character of Donald Blake has been added to the end of the script. Let me reiterate that he wasn't there before, the script was set entirely in the land of the Norse Gods.

The introduction of the character is essential to how Marvel will tie Thor into the Avengers that is set in contemporary Tony Stark/Hulk timeframe. It explains how the actual Thor film will be set in the ancient time of the Norse Gods and how they will subsequently bring the character into a modern time with Donald Blake discovering the magical Norse hammer Mjolnir and turning into Thor.

The site adds that Thor director Kenneth Branagh will have an acting part in the film as well.

Thor is coming to theaters on July 16, 2010 and The Avengers a year later on July 15, 2011.

Kevin McKidd as THOR?

While he hasn't been cast yet, it seems Kevin McKidd is certainly eager to pick up that hammer. IGN ran into McKidd at the premiere of Punisher: War Zone, and he said he's still in the running for the lead role in Thor.

McKidd, who starred in Journeyman, Rome and currently appears in Grey's Anatomy, did add that there was "some back and forth" regarding the project, but was excited about the film now that Kenneth Brannagh has been attached to direct.

Marvel is eyeing up a July 16, 2010 release date for Thor. We'll certainly keep you updated on any developments surrounding this film.

Daniel Craig on The Thor Movie

In an odd bit of news, it seems Marvel offered current James Bond actor, Daniel Craig the role of Thor, but he turned it down saying, "It would be too much of a power trip playing both James Bond and the mighty Thor." Good move Daniel. Who the hell is making these bonehead decisions at Marvel?

An intrepid reporter, at IESB.net broke the odd revelation while joking with Daniel Craig at the Quantum of Solace press junket. She asked Craig if he would be up for trying something new and different in a character role such as Thor. After a chuckle, Craig, revealed that Marvel indeed had already approached him for this role and he had turned it down.

Smart move, I say. He's already got a great gig, and frankly, I've always believed that the character MUST dominate and overshadow any actor that takes on the role. Craig already being known as James Bond only complicates that theory. We have Ben Affleck as evidence--and he wasn't really KNOWN for anything except being a big star. The ONLY big star who's actual life has aligned perfectly with the character's role is probably Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man/Tony Stark. Thus, the fact that he was already a big star didn't really factor--especially since Tony Stark himself is a star (of a kind) in the Marvel Universe.

Marvel needs to pull its head out and stop looking for ONLY A-list actors to fulfill the roles of Thor, Captain America and the Avengers--the movies on their slate next. Find a Christopher Reeve and let the viewers create the fantasy in their minds without having preconcieved notions entering in.

Thor Director Announced

Kenneth Branagh is negotiating to direct "Thor," the next Marvel Comics property that will be turned into a live-action film by Marvel Studios. Pic will be released in 2010.

Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige's choice of Branagh is surprising, as Branagh hasn't really directed an action-heavy film since his debut on "Henry V," a bloody telling of the British king's conquest of France.

Branagh is the latest in a string of directors -- such as Jon Favreau ("Iron Man"), Christopher Nolan (the Batman franchise) and Gavin Hood ("X-Men Origins: Wolverine") -- with arthouse roots taking on big-budget comicbook fare.

Marvel will set a distributor for "Thor" shortly.

"Thor" comicbook adaptation, penned by Mark Protosevich, follows disabled medical student Donald Blake, who has an alter ego as the hammer-wielding Norse god Thor.

Marvel will self-finance the film via its $500 million credit facility through Merrill Lynch. Marvel used that coin to fund both "Iron Man" and "The Incredible Hulk" and will do the same for the "Iron Man" sequel that has director Favreau and star Robert Downey Jr. returning.

The "Thor" negotiations come during a resurgence for Branagh. He's currently drawing raves on the London stage in the title role of "Ivanov," and he'll next be seen acting in the Richard Curtis-directed "The Boat That Rocked" and the Bryan Singer-helmed "Valkyrie."

Who will play the "God of Thunder" himself?

Some people have speculated that Brad Pitt should play him well for one thing he did play Achilles in (2004) Troy. Blond hairy, athletic like in Mr. and Miss. Smith and well built. What do you think?

Also I've been thinking that the "King of Kings" "The Game" himself should play Thor. WWE Superstar Triple H (HHH). For one thing he is huge blond and buff. Well, you have to be super buff to be in the WWE and he is a natural Blond. Oh yeah one more thing what is is most favorite weapon on Raw (now SmackDown)  Yeah          THE MALLET perfect it's like Thor's War Hammer. Perfect match I think.

Thor's Super Villain

Wizard Magazine has confirmed that Thor's Half Brother Loki "God of Mischief" will be played by Scarecrow. Who is Scarecrow you might ask? well, in Batman Begins he is Dr. Jonathan Crane aka Cillian Murphy. Murphy has already done a Super Villain in Batman Begins, why not be another?

Director for Thor

Matthew Vaughn has signed to be directors for 2010 Thor. He was suppose to direct X-Men 3 the Last Stand but backed out a few months before production for personal reasons. Can he handle the "God of Thunder"?

The Other Possible Cast

Kate Beckinsale as Lady Sith, Linda Cardellini as Jane Foster, and Jesse Spencer as Don Blake.

Out off these three all I know is Kate Beckinsale (Underworld 1&2 and Van Helsing) don't now how good she will do as The Lady Sith.
