Disney buys out Marvel for $4 Billion

Micky owns Spiderman !!!

The Walt Disney Company has announced it will acquire Marvel Entertainment, Inc. in a stock and cash transaction worth 4 billion dollars.

Disney will pay Marvel shareholders a $30 per share, plus approximately 0.745 Disney shares for each Marvel share they own, based on the closing price of Disney on August 28, 2009.

What makes this deal huge, as far as content goes, is the fact that under the terms of the deal, Disney will acquire ownership of not only Marvel itself, but also over than 5,000 Marvel characters. Disney will now benefit from any movie or a game based on characters such as Iron Man, Spider-Man, X-Men and many others; extending its reach to the young male population it had somewhat neglected will definitely be good for the entertainment giant.

Ike Perlmutter, Marvel’s Chief Executive Officer said that “Disney is the perfect home for Marvel’s fantastic library of characters given its proven ability to expand content creation and licensing businesses.”

“This transaction combines Marvel’s strong global brand and world-renowned library of characters including Iron Man, Spider-Man, X-Men, Captain America, Fantastic Four and Thor with Disney’s creative skills, unparalleled global portfolio of entertainment properties, and a business structure that maximizes the value of creative properties across multiple platforms and territories,” said Robert A. Iger, President and Chief Executive Officer of The Walt Disney Company.

Namor: The Sub-Mariner Movie in the Works

Mostow said that the film of Marvel's first mutant is in the works:

"These characters have been around forever and to really do justice to them and make the right movie, you have to get the script right," Mostow told MTV News. "So we're still working on that and we'll see. With everything Marvel, we like to keep it in a shroud of secrecy."

Bill Everette created the Sub-Mariner first appearing in 1939. Namor made his first appearance in "Marvel Comics" #1 published by Marvel's predecessor, Timely Comics.

This from MTV:
"Born of a human sailor and an Atlantean princess, Namor made a name for himself by ruling the oceans and battling Nazis and other menaces alongside Captain America and others during World War II.

Though Namor would later resurge as a recurring antihero in Marvel's "Fantastic Four" series, with that franchise now seemingly in limbo, having Namor tie into the upcoming "Captain America: The First Avenger" franchise isn't implausible, story-wise. However, Universal currently owns the rights to the "Sub-Mariner" movie, so any overlap in the Marvel Studios world is highly unlikely."

And that really stinks as it would be nice to see Namor match wits with the Fantastic Four fighting the Human Torch. Or see Namor help Captain America out like he has so many times in the comics. Marvel really needs to get their ducks in a row as far as properties are concerned. As soon as they do, just imagine the possibilities.

Who Should Play Namor??

          Jason Behr???                Vin Diesel???                   Who???

Dead Oregon man during Watchmen

A Eugene, Oregon man shot himself to death in a movie theater while watching a late showing of Watchmen, just after midnight Monday morning.

Police say about 10 other movie-goers were in Regal Cinemas watching the monster hit when a few registered complaints with the manager of a “popping” noise they heard about halfway through the film. The 24-year-old man was found in the rear of the theater with a gunshot wound to the head. Police say the man committed suicide and was dead when they arrived.

MIB 3 In the Works???

Sony announced yesterday that they are working on the third installment of the Men in Black series. Details are very limited right now, as Sony is interested in a screenwriter, but haven't hired him.

The project is in early development, and Sony has not confirmed if Will Smith will be involved with the movie. Men in Black 3 is scheduled for a summer of 2011 release. The summer of 2011 is stacked, with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, The Avengers, and Spider-Man 4 all coming out.

More Ghost Rider 2 News

Nicolas Cage is planning to reprise his 2007 role as Johnny Blaze aka, Ghost Rider. Cage told MTV News that a writer is currently being sought for the follow-up.

The sequel, may see the biker from hell battle evil in Europe alongside the Catholic Church is still in its early stages. A director is also needed for the film. Mark Steven Johnson, co-writer and director of “Daredevil” and the first “Ghost Rider” film, seems like a likely candidate for either role in the sequel, Cage said nothing’s been decided so far.

“Everyone is very busy. I know Mark has his own thing going on,” Cage told MTV, “It’s up to the studio. It’s really in their hands.”

When asked which elements the sequel should include, Cage spoke tentatively given the early stage of “Ghost Rider 2″ development. He did, however, point out the importance of some signature Ghost Rider themes.

“It has to have that action horror element and go deeper into that if it were to happen and [it should] keep us asking questions. Keep it interesting on a philosophical level,” said Cage.

Well hopefully this Ghost Rider will be more true to the comics, and not have Mephisto be the actual devil, though Peter Fonda is very Satanic and evil.
