New Iron Man 2 Poster

It's been a big day for new images on the 'Net, but the biggest thus far just arrived online. Not only is the first official "Iron Man 2" poster now available online, but the image also gives us the first official look at War Machine!

The new poster debuted exclusively at Yahoo Movies, and features both the familiar (though slightly upgraded) Iron Man armor, as well as the War Machine armor destined to be worn by Don Cheadle's character, James "Rhodey" Rhodes. It also offers the simple tagline "2" instead of the film's full title.

For those who weren't able to attend this year's "Iron Man 2" panel at Comic-Con International in San Diego, this is the first official look at War Machine — and fans will be happy to note how similar it looks to its comic book counterpart (even down to the shoulder-mounted weaponry).

Ed Norton in Iron Man 2

POSSIBLE SPOILER ALERT!

Our Marvel Movie mole has informed Nuke The Fridge of yet another cameo in the upcoming “Iron Man 2” film due out next summer.  Our confidential source first reported that Stan Lee will make a brief appearance in the second Iron Man film as Larry King.  Now rumor has it that Edward Norton will have a possible cameo as both Bruce Banner and the Hulk. If true, this will surely make some fans green with envy.

As a brief review,The Avengers issue #1 had Iron Man, The Hulk, Giant-Man, and The Wasp as the founding members. Captain America did not join The Avengers until issue #4.  What is Marvel ramping up for?

If this turns out to be true, remember: NukeTheFridge.com broke this story first!

Scarlet vs. Gwyneth

Back in May, it was reported that Gwyneth Paltrow, reprising her role as Pepper Potts, assistant to Tony Stark/Iron Man (played by Robert Downey Jr.) was jealous about the attention that her new co-star, Scarlett Johansson was receiving on the set of Iron Man 2. An unnamed source said that Paltrow found Johansson "demanding" and said that Paltrow was jealous of the outfits that Johansson's character, the Black Widow, wears in the movie.

Director Jon Favreau officially announced today that principal photography has wrapped, but the Iron Man 2 drama continues. Once again, an unnamed source claims that Paltrow is fuming over the attention that Johansson is receiving. This time, the source claims that its Paltrow's noticeable absence from this week's Entertainment Weekly cover and other promotional materials for the movie that has the actress seeing red. Apparently, Paltrow has even boycotted the San Diego Comic Convention.

A spokesman for Paltrow denies the rumors, saying:

"(Gwyneth) was not at all upset. The fans will get to see more of Pepper Potts as we get closer to the film's release next May."

Iron Man 2 also stars Don Cheadle as Col. James "Rhodey" Rhodes and Sam Rockwell as Justin Hammer. Samuel L. Jackson reprises the role of Nick Fury, a character introduced after the credits of the first Iron Man movie.

Iron Man 2 opens May 7, 2010!

Jon Favreau on The Late Show With Jimmy Fallen

First Iron Man 2 Pic

In the article were a few quotes from director Jon Favreau who has been informing the fans of his on set experiences via Twitter.

The sequel to last summer's blockbuster, which began shooting three weeks ago and opens May 7, 2010, takes place six months after Stark revealed his identity as Iron Man, says director Jon Favreau. And the development is playing out with unexpected results. "How many superheroes are open about their true identities?" he asks. "We wanted to play with that idea. But it obviously has consequences — in his relationships, on the team. There are a lot of areas we can explore."

"It's never easy with summer movies, but we're trying to keep as much a surprise as possible," he says.

Favreau says that tackling the franchise a second time is easier because he knows the landscape. Something else would help, too: "I really enjoyed when we were a dark horse and no one knew much about us. ... I hope we can find that place again."

Iron Man 2 should have a huge presence at Comic Con this year in San Diego. Favreau told USA Today, “I really enjoyed when we were a dark horse (at Comic-Con) and no one knew much about us. … I hope we can find that place again.”

Is it just me, or does Tony/Robert look like a wax mannequin?

Don Cheadle on War Machine Future

In a recent interview with Don Cheadle on the set of Iron man 2....

TF: So you'd like to see Iron Man 2 continue the first film's political engagement?
DC: People were surprised that Iron Man was really good and had more to it-that's attributable to Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. Hopefully that will continue. If this rolls out how it's supposed to, I'll do five movies for Marvel...I've always wanted to be in a big superhero movie and I'll actually be in some of the action. I like doing as much of that stuff as I can, so you wanna be fit! Let's hope I get the armour on. In the first movie Rhodey did say, "Next time."

TF: Was it strange excepting the role after Terrence Howard?
DC: I got a call out of the blu saying, "Do you want this part? Terrence isn't doing it." I said, "You're not firing him for me?" and they said, "We're not-he's out of it". After I acccepted, I saw Terrence and he said, "I know you don't know what went on because I didn't know what was going on!" Terrence is my boy, I've known him for a long time-it's all good. I imagine there'll be a fair amount of people who want to see Terrence again.

TF: Would you like to see a Rhodey/War Machine spin-off?
DC: Actually, I hope to retire. I'm only half-joking. It would be great to have a character that you could take off with. If it was Rhodey that would be interesting but I have young children. If it meant spending monthsand months away from home, it's not worth that. You've caught me at a very ambivalent moment. I'm gonna be a good soldier, I know that!

So what 5 films might Rhodey be involved with, and what does this mean for the future of War Machine?

Mickey Rourke in Iron Man 2 UPDATE

After being hassled by the paparazzi—and being way cooler about it than I would have been—Mickey finally gives up a bit of information. When asked if he will be involved in Iron Man 2, Mickey responds, "You bet your ass."

Just what role Mickey would play in the sequel to Jon Favreau's blockbuster Iron Man (2008) is still in doubt, but rumors are circulating that he will play Whiplash, a minor Marvel villain. With filming expected to begin in April, we should know the answer before too long.

This is a long clip, so if you just want to hear the words coming out of his mouth, skip ahead to 2:54 – 2:57 of the 4:08 clip.

Emily Blunt Not Iron Man

We learned last night on E! that Fox has exercised the option to keep Emily Blunt onboard "Gulliver's Travels," which means that shedefinitely can't be the Black Widow in Iron Man II. On the other front, Robert Downey Jr said that they are still trying to work a deal with Mickey Rourke...
On E!'s post show at the red carpet of some party, Jon Favreau said that Fox exercised its ["Gulliver's Travellers"] option on Emily Blunt, and that she definitely won't be in 'Iron Man 2.' The reporter was chatting with Favreau and asking about what he can tell them about 'IM2.' He said Mickey Rourke isn't officially cast but that he is a fan. Then she asked about Emily and Favreau said that about Fox exercising their option, which I hadn't heard before. I thought they were still trying to make it work. He said he was disappointed but didn't say anything about Scarlett Johansson replacing her or anyone else taking the role.

In an interview with Robert Downey Jr, Idol host Ryan Seacreast asked about Mickey Rourke being in Iron Man 2 and Downey said that they're still in negotiations. "They should've sewn up the deal before Oscars, but that is sometimes how the business stuff goes." He then went on to say that they are slaving on a script that will do the first movie justice.

Iron Man 2 Villians

Rockwell would play Justin Hammer, a multibillionaire businessman and a rival of industrialist Anthony Stark, AKA Iron Man, being played by a returning Robert Downey Jr.

Rourke and Rockwell would be joining a cast that also includes the returning Gwyneth Paltrow and Don Cheadle, who is replacing Terrence Howard, making for one eclectically cast summer blockbuster.

Another part -- one for Stark's assistant Natasha -- is still open.

The project is eyeing a spring start in Manhattan Beach. Paramount will release the movie May 7, 2010.

Rourke, repped by ICM, is making the best of the accolades he is receiving for his heart-wrenching turn in "The Wrestler." On top of this big-budget movie, the actor, who will next be seen in "The Informers," just joined the cast of "The Expendables," an action movie starring Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham and Dolph Lundgren.

If Rockwell's deal makes, it would mark a rare studio appearance for the actor, who is best known for his indie dramas. Gersh-repped Rockwell recently starred as a sex-addicted con man in "Choke" and an estranged husband in "Snow Angels." He can currently be seen in the political drama "Frost/Nixon."

IT IS OFFICIAL !!!

One wonders if the announcement today was meant                                to deflect the immense criticism coming from fans                               about the unexplained Howard/Cheadle switcheroo.                              But, the additional casting of Cheadle in The Avengers                             movie may explain much. This from Marvel...

Jon Favreau will return to                             direct the sequel to the blockbuster "Iron Man,                                        " which to date has grossed over $578 million                                    worldwide, as well as executive produce "The Avengers."

Don Cheadle Will Star as Rhodey in "Iron Man 2"

Cheadle is also signed on to perform the same role in "The Avengers" and subsequent installments of the "Iron Man" franchise.

"We are very excited about working with the extraordinarily talented Don Cheadle as we expand the role of Rhodey in 'Iron Man 2.' It has already become apparent as we prep the movie for production, that the dynamic between Robert and Don will take 'Iron Man 2' to new heights," said Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios.

Robert Talks about Iron Man 2

Just when you thought Robert Downey Jr. was made of iron when it came to revealing plot secrets to “Iron Man 2,” he proved not so steely to the Sun-Times.

“You want some plot secrets? Okay, here we go,” Downey said in an interview this weekend. “If he said he's Iron Man in the first film, it's one thing to say it and another thing to evolve to a point where you can live in a heroic fashion.”

Downey added, “Our goal is also more of the same in 'Iron Man 2.' We want to do what worked for us last time. I'm talking about telling more of the story of a guy put in extraordinary circumstances who has a family now and he's dealing with these forces.

“In 'Iron Man 2,' you will be able to understand various points of view about him that are far-reaching while this guy is still grounded in reality.”
